Issue with placement of Google Site Verification meta tag

We are trying to set up our Google Merchant Center account and it’s having us install the Google Site Verification meta tag in the theme.liquid file between and , which we’ve done, but when we click on the Verify Website button, it gives us an error message saying “The meta tag on your site is in the wrong location.” I’ve chatted with Google support about it but they told me they weren’t able to help and to check with the web developer. We are using Avenue theme, and our website is The Sun Shade Company. Any ideas on why this is happening and how we can fix it?

Thanks!

Make sure that the you log in to Google Merchant center, using the same email as you created the HTML tag. If you are using a different log in, you can not claim it.

That would be what I think is happening.

However, I can see you have two tags on the site, so if one of them is the correct value, then it should work.

It’s possible that the file meta tag changed since you added it.

Thank you, Emmanuel, I appreciate your reply. My administrator was having issues getting this set up, so I had added a second meta tag so I can test it without logging in to their account. We are both logged into the correct accounts (same account that was used to create the html tags). Any other ideas or suggestions?

Maybe consider adding a different email you own, then try and claim it, make sure that you log in to GMC using the same exact email address.

If that does not work, then I don’t know what the issue is, as I have never experienced this before.
