Verifying with Google

Hey Everyone,

I am trying to verify my site with Google and have added the code above the head tag in the layout>liquid.theme section (and yes, clicked save!) but when i go back to verify it says it’s in the wrong place:

Exact error message is:

“The meta tag on your online store is in the wrong location”

Only thing I can think of is that its not a close head tag, but the document doesn’t have one of those - when I search “head” its just that 1 result on line 7.

These were the instructions I was given

  1. Copy the HTML tag generated for your online store:

    XXXXX

  2. In a new browser tab or window, open shopify.com and sign in to your store.

  3. Go to Online Store > Themes > Live theme > Actions > Edit Code.

  4. In the “Layout” folder, edit the theme.liquid file.

  5. Paste the meta tag you copied from Google’s HTML tag section right before .

  6. Click Save.

  7. Return to Merchant Center and click “Verify your online store” below to submit your online Store to Google for verification.

Any help would be much appreciated!!

Make sure you log in using the same username in to Google Merchant Center.

Make sure that you can verify that the tag is added by viewing your homepage. (Maybe caching apps are causing the issue)
