I sell one of a kind pieces that vary in size and weight. Does each item have to have it’s own profile? And do I need to add the size of the box for each item to a new shipping profile in order for the shipping costs to be accurate? So if I have 99 items, that would mean I would have 99 shipping profiles? and if 2 items are purchased, will the Shopify shipping rates combine the shipping costs so that the customer is getting a bit of a discount for combined shipping rather than paying for 2 individual shipoing costs? Thanks for any insight on this. It seems like a very tedious process.
You can manage one-of-a-kind pieces with varying size and weight by using product variants rather than separate profiles for each item.
Note that you’ll need to set up accurate shipping profiles that account for these variations, specifying shipping costs based on weight ranges or size categories rather than creating profiles for each item.
Shopify supports combining shipping costs for multiple items in an order, which you can configure through shipping settings to offer customers discounted rates for combined shipping. It’s important to test and adjust your shipping settings to ensure they accurately reflect your shipping costs and provide a seamless checkout experience.
Hello @andfound
When there are products from different shipping profiles, Shopify sums up the cheapest available options from the matched shipping zones and displays the combined cost at checkout. You may not be able to add any discounts to these rates.
As suggested by @DavidNZSSI , consider configuring the shipping costs based on weight or price range conditions.
Alternatively, you could explore solutions such as the PH Multi-Carrier Shipping Label app that offers real-time shipping rates. These rates are automatically calculated by the carrier API based on the distance, package weight, and dimensions. Please note that you need to have an account with the carrier and the Shopify’s Carrier Calculated Shipping feature active on your Shopify store. The app also comes with a 14-day free trial period and offers dimensions configuration for products along with advanced packaging options such as weight-based, volume-based, quantity-based, etc.
