Local Delivery for all products. Shipping for some products. (Exclude shipping on some products)

Trying to set up product or shipping profile to accommodate this seemingly simply request.

All products available for Local Pickup (I have Local Pickup enabled).

Some of those products can be shipped and some cannot (too large /bulky).

I have tried to disable checkbox - This is a Physical Product. This doesn’t produce the notification for the customer to pickup their item.

I have tried setting up multiple Shipping Profiles, adding the ‘no ship furniture’ items and adding a rate of ‘0’ free. The problem with this is it keeps that Shipping option in there as well as the Local Pickup. Also shows ‘Shipping’ free in the line items, which is confusing to the customer.

I’m willing to add rate based on weight and set ‘no ship’ products to a high weight but can’t get that to work either.

Problem - Local Pickup all items. Shipping only applies to some of them.

I changed the words ‘free’ to ’ ’ (blanks) in the ‘free rate label’ from the theme (Dawn) 'edit languages. The was confusing to the customer when a non-ship items said free shipping.

The ‘Ship’ option still remains but when clicked it doesn’t allow the shipping address to be entered (correct) and does show the ‘Local Pickup’ option being checked.

When a ship and non-ship item are put in the cart, it allows it to be shipped but looks like the furniture item (non-ship) ships with it, which can be misleading but we have clearly stated in the product description that this product is for Local Pickup Only. Hope that is sufficient. This was the best work around I could find. If anyone knows a better way, please reply. Thank you.

I have been looking for something similar, though what I need is for certain product variants (not whole products) to trigger local pickup as the only option, so if any variant that triggers local pickup is in the cart, the entire order must be picked up. Obviously some messaging will be necessary as well when customer adds one of those variants to their cart.
