Up until recently I was using the MaxBundle app on Shopify because it was free and met my needs. However, now it has become a paid app and for my store it doesn’t justify the cost anymore.
So I’m looking for recommendations for a free (or very low cost) bundle app that:
supports creating product bundles (fixed bundles, mix & match or at least fixed sets)
handles inventory properly (so the individual SKUs in the bundle decrement correctly)
works nicely with the Shopify theme/checkout
ideally has a free tier with enough features to run at least a small/medium store
Before I pick one, I wanted to ask the community:
Are you using a free bundle app you would recommend?
Any pitfalls or limitations I should be aware of (especially if they’re free)?
Which bundle type do you use (fixed, mix & match, BOGO, etc.), and which app handles it best?
If free is the goal, instead of selling bundles that pay for the process itself , then just use the shopify bundles app and lower the requirements to set proper expectations.
The pitfall is the same cliched trap as it’s always been for new merchants:
If some business model traps you into needing everything “free” it’s a broken model.
If the insistence is on free why spend time on something that doesn’t make you MORE money that can pay for itself!
Invest your time in outcomes with actual ROI.

For what you listed (fixed bundles, mix and match, proper inventory deduction), here’s what I’d actually look at:
Shopify’s native Bundles app is free and handles basic fixed bundles with inventory sync. The catch is it’s quite limited, no mix and match, no discount flexibility beyond what you can do with Shopify’s built-in discount system, and the display options are pretty bare bones. But if your bundles are simple (predefined sets, no variant selection needed), it does the job without costing anything.
If you need more flexibility, BOGOS has a free tier that gives you 30 orders to test with. Their bundle feature covers fixed bundles, mix and match, and the bundle builder (which is a dedicated page where customers pick their own items). Inventory syncs in real time with your actual product stock. The paid plans start at $29.99 if you outgrow the free tier, but at least you can properly test it before committing.
