Low conversion rate

Topic summary

A Shopify store owner reports a 0.3% conversion rate despite decent engagement: 4.14% add-to-cart rate and 2.33% reaching checkout, but only 0.33% completing purchases from 41,555 sessions. The significant drop-off between checkout initiation and completion suggests friction in the final purchase stage.

Key Issues Identified:

  • Product visualization problems: variant images not displaying properly on product pages (e.g., Full Custom Helmet Graphics)
  • Potential checkout complexity requiring simplification
  • Possible shipping cost concerns deterring final purchases

Recommended Solutions:

  • Enable one-page or guest checkout to reduce friction
  • Improve product pages with larger “Add to Cart” buttons and clearer customization instructions
  • Prominently advertise existing free shipping threshold (€50)
  • Implement cart abandonment recovery via email reminders and retargeting ads
  • Use heatmaps to identify specific drop-off points
  • Ensure mobile optimization and fast loading speeds
  • Consider urgency tactics (limited stock banners, first-time buyer discounts)

The store shows promise with some conversions occurring and apparent product interest, indicating potential for improvement through targeted optimization.

could be a lot of things. certainly a big disparity from reached checkout to conversions. there isn’t much you can do to the checkout and other site owners don’t have a problem with it. which countries do you sell in vs. the countries the customers are in? where is the traffic coming from?

you do see some conversions so that is good. but there are a lot of things you can do to improve the site. I am currently on Full Custom Helmet Graphics but when I click the different variants i do not see images of the different products. not being able to visualize what you are buying is a big issue.

it is a good start but you need to keep working on it. seems like there is interest in the products so you can certainly build on what you have going

Hi @Lander

I love the way you custom motorsport decals, looks awesome and super niche and high-quality!

First, simplify your checkout: it’s got a lot of steps, so try enabling Shopify’s one-page checkout or adding a guest checkout option to reduce friction. Your product pages could use some love too, bigger “Add to Cart” buttons and clearer customization instructions might nudge more folks past the cart stage. Shipping costs might be scaring people off at checkout, so consider offering free shipping over a certain amount (like €50, since you already do that) and advertise it loud and clear upfront. Maybe throw in some urgency with a “limited stock” banner or a discount code for first-timers.

And don’t forget to analyze user behavior. Utilize tools like heatmaps to understand where users might be dropping off or facing issues on your site. Also, check if your store optimize for mobile or not. With many users shopping via mobile devices, ensure your website is mobile-friendly and loads quickly. And, Implement email reminders or retargeting ads for users who added items to their cart but didn’t complete the purchase.

Hi @Lander ,

I am from Mageplaza - Shopify solution expert. Here are my suggestions to improve the performance of your website and increase sales:

A high cart abandonment rate can be discouraging, especially after investing time and resources into driving traffic to your store. This suggests that many potential buyers are leaving without completing their purchases, leading to lower conversion rates.

To tackle this issue, consider re-engaging these shoppers by:

  • Sending Email Reminders: Notify customers about their abandoned items to encourage them to return.
  • Offering Incentives: Provide discounts or free shipping to motivate them to complete their purchase.
