Merchant Center Suspension Question - Why do deleted products reappear?

Hi all,

Trying to troubleshoot a Google Merchant Center Suspension… I’ve set up my store by having my products on a collection page, with a rule that says ‘don’t include’ if stock is not above 0. I don’t want my customers to see a product if it isn’t available.

I keep getting errors that say ‘landing page unavailable’, which I think is due to a feed error on those out of stock products. If I delete a product from my store, and my google merchant center, why do the deleted products re-appear in merchant center the next day?

If anyone has any best practices when it comes to hiding out of stock inventory, I’d appreciate them. Or if anyone knows why deleted products re-appear, I’d be graterful.

Thanks for reading!

Depending on your data feed solution, it would generally by default show everything that is enabled in Shopify.

There are several ways to exclude products.

  1. In your data feed app (check the documentation or contact support)

  2. Using feed rules in Google Merchant Center. For example if availability is out of stock set excluded destinations Shopping_ads

It is possible that the issue is caused by a feed error on the out-of-stock products.

When you delete a product from your store and Google Merchant Center, the product should no longer appear in Merchant Center. However, if the product is still being included in your feed, it may be re-appearing in Merchant Center.

You can check your feed settings to make sure that products with a stock of 0 are not included in the feed. Additionally, you can try to set up a schedule for your feed, so that it updates at specific times, and make sure that the deleted products are not included in the feed before the feed updates.

It’s also possible that the error ‘landing page unavailable’ is caused by the deleted product still being linked to a landing page that no longer exists. In this case, you can check if the landing page of the deleted product is not indexed by google anymore or check if the landing page is redirecting to the correct page.
