Meta Title and Meta Description for home page

Topic summary

Meta title and description set in Shopify’s Online Store > Preferences are not appearing in Google search; instead, Google shows on‑page text from the homepage (confirmed via screenshots of current SERP).

Recent actions and checks:

  • Advised to verify the page’s HTML source to ensure correct and meta description are present.
  • Suggested using Google Search Console’s “Request Indexing” to refresh Google’s cache; after reindexing, the SERP still showed an unexpected title format and description pulled from page content.
  • Basic step suggested: clear browser/cache (impact not confirmed).

Likely causes discussed:

  • SEO apps (search engine optimization tools) can inject or leave residual code that overrides or blocks meta tags, even after uninstalling. A prior case was resolved only after the app developer removed leftover code.

Diagnostics and tools:

  • Use Lighthouse (a Chrome auditing tool) to inspect what meta tags Google can read.
  • Review installed and previously uninstalled SEO apps; one site review flagged “eComposer” as potentially managing SEO.

Recommended next steps:

  • Confirm correct meta tags in page source.
  • Contact developers of current and formerly installed SEO apps to remove leftover code.
  • Re‑request indexing after cleanup.

Status: No confirmed resolution for the original site; guidance provided, discussion effectively ongoing.

Hey there everyone, I have a question about my Meta Title and Meta Description for my home page.

The above is what is displayed when my site is searched. the meta data in the photo is text that is on the home page of my site.

but in my store, under online store > preferences > title and meta description, I have a completely different meta description and slightly different meta title for my home page.

why doesn’t it show the meta description and title that I want?

Thanks.

Hey Alex,

I guess you recently changed meta titles and descriptions on your website.

If you check the source code of your website do they show up correctly?

If Yes. Google Cache of your site may be outdated. You can force google to recrawl the website by “request Indexing Feature” in google search Console.

I will give that a try, thanks for the suggestion!

Hey @Alex_Joseph ,

Can you just share your store URL so that we can look into the matter in depth and let you know the best possible solution?

You can recheck by clearing your cache files if it works.

Regards,

CedCommerce

for sure, thanks for offering help.

for more information,

this is now the meta title and description after requesting indexing:

Where the title should just be: LYNK Digital Marketing Services

and the description is still text being taken from the home page of the website instead of the meta description that I have it set to be.

Thanks.

You don’t happen to have Booster SEO app installed on your site do you? I had a very similar issue and it too k me months to work out what was going on. This app I was using for some time then uninstalled it had left something on my site that was blocking my title/description from being read

how did you fix it?

I contacted the app developer and had them remove the left over code. They tried to blame me at first, saying that because I removed the app, the title and description was removed. I had to explain to them that I had in fact written and added the title and description myself prior to installing the app, and that it was in fact their app that had removed MY title and description and that they needed to remove the left over code. Once they did that, everything went back to how it was before installing their app. Do you have the same issue?

Hi yes and it is driving me crazy

Did you previously have this app installed?

No but other seo apps

Chances are, one off these apps is doing it. Contact the developers and ask them to remove any remaining code. Do you know how to use Lighthouse?

No what is lighthouse?

It’s a Chrome extension for analyzing your website. That’s how I found the left-over code. What is your website URL? I might be able to find which app has left code behind for you.

Thank you! Poolcovers.com.au

I had a quick look. Is Ecomposse app still in use?

Sorry…ecomposer

No I don’t recognise that

Yes it is still installed
