Hi, the cost of goods sold for some items have been missing at reports (regardless of which report I call up). It is always different items each time, not limited to any particular products. In all cases, I did not make any changes to these items. This has been ongoing for months and shopify team has not provided a solution so far. Does anyone face the same problem I do?
hi @Carrielim
I haven’t experienced the same issue myself, but if you’re missing the cost of goods sold for certain items, you can try adding it manually in the settings.
Please refer to the screenshot for how to do this. This might help resolve the issue.
Let me know if this works for you or if you need further assistance!
Best,
Felix
Hi Felix, thank you for the suggestions. However the missing cost of goods sold happens when I call up reports. The cost of goods is not missing at the product page. E.g if I call up a sales report, you can see under the cost column is ‘0’ for some orders, even though there is a cost amount at the product page.
Hi,
Hope this will help
Sync issue, Shopify bug, app interference.
Solution - Recheck cost values, re-save them, bulk edit, clear browser cache, escalate to Shopify
Hi @Carrielim Merchant,
We’ve actually encountered this issue before while working with other Shopify store owners, and we’ve successfully resolved it.
When the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) data randomly disappears from reports—even though no changes were made to the products—it’s usually due to a few key reasons:
- Syncing or caching glitches within Shopify’s backend
- Third-party inventory or reporting apps occasionally overriding or desyncing product cost data
- Bulk imports or updates that unintentionally reset COGS fields (even if not immediately noticeable)
- API errors if you’re using integrations that push/pull product data
Since you’ve been facing this for months and Shopify hasn’t provided a fix, we’d be happy to take a closer look and guide you through the resolution. Feel free to reply here if you’d like our support—we’re confident we can help you get this sorted.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

This can happen with COGS data may not always be saved during product or inventory updates. Missing COGS fields may also need to be cross-checked with an app like Report Pundit or Menosocio. Export your product data on a regular basis to have backups and snoop out discrepancies that could affect reporting.
Hi Roan,
In my case, the COGS for the same product may appear in the sales report this month but disappear in the COGS next month. Also the disappearance of the COGS happens only to a couple of orders and not all the orders for the same product. That is why it is so frustrating as I cannot point this error to a particular product and the COGS disappearance happens on and off, to different orders and different products. My best guess now is that it is a glitch or syncing issue as what others suggested. But I can’t do anything about this. Shopify tech team couldn’t help either. Every month, I have to go through every order to identify those with missing COGS for certain products. That has been painful.
