Your are not alone, neither is your specific issues as there are many Many MANY other problems with this arrogant feature.
Please also reach out DIRECTLY to shopify support and complain about this frustrating change overcomplicated feature disrupting your business. https://help.shopify.com/ ask for “support advisor” or “human” to try and get past the bot.
