New to google shopping and ads

What are 5 basic points you would give a store is getting into google shopping and ads?

Hello EverythingEmbell, thank you for your question and for joining the Shopify AMA. My name is Emmanuel, founder of FeedArmy, and your host for today’s AMA.

5 Basics, well, lets see if I can give you 5 tips, but instead of giving you basic tips, lets give you tips that are the foundation of advertising on Google Shopping.

The biggest and most impactful tip is to improve your data feed quality. I explain here how make improvements in the feed, improves the performance in Google Ads: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqFCRer5K4Y&t=27s

So just submitting your website data is not enough. Make sure to improve and add every single attribute, here is a list of requirements and recommendations: https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/7052112?hl=en

The second tip is to ensure your google ads remarketing and conversion tracking is working. How many times I see this is incorrectly setup is mind boggling.

So to check, ensure you have 1 purchase even as primary, and everything else set as secondary here: https://ads.google.com/aw/conversions

Then check your remarketing ids or ecomm_prodid values match the data feed product ids here: https://ads.google.com/aw/productlinks/datasourcestats/googletag

Then for the third is to ensure you have setup campaigns that are effective. Depending on the business this can be different for each merchant, so what works for one, will not always work for another. My recommendation is to test out performance max, add all the assets and see how it works. Then improve based on results.

Third, don’t be scared to add promotions, this can help boost your CTR, and have a look at all other annotations as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ztru3Ouciu4

Forth, see if you can improve your website, see what works for your competitors. Don’t be scared to experiment. As that is the only way you can find out if something new will work or not.

For the fifth tip, check all the free info available, every month new things appear, such as policy changes, new techniques, new attributes, etc. So invest some time in keeping up to date with what is going on with Google Ads and merchant center.
