Out of stock SKU's visible as such yet able to add them to cart

Hello,

I am a studio business making 1st pieces that will be available for DTC purchase. I would like for my clients to be able to sort for items, and their variants, that are “In Stock” (Ready to ship) as well as view all SKUS that are out of stock (which I would like to label as “Made to Order”), but still be able to add out of stock items to their cart and purchase them.

Searching through other Shopify customers with similar queries, I learned about the “continue selling when out of stock” feature under a product’s “track quantity”, but the issue I have is the “out of stock” identifier is then removed and I would still need this on as it needs to be clear to my clients that all out of stock items will be made to order.

Any help in solving this issue would be greatly appreciated please!

I definitely will! Thanks so much. I am still trying to decide if this is the most seamless option as I can see that I would need an app for that and that many forms of payment would not be possible for such items..Is this really the case that one cannot set up “Pre-Order” from Shopify? I am using Prestige as a Theme if that makes any difference.

You can use kaktus-preorder which is free to use.

another method is to set the product tracking checkbox uncheck.

Once your product is out of stock uncheck the track quantity and a tag which will show the label as out-of-stock as you want.

But this will need a few custom codes in the theme By this way, you would not need any APP.
