I started using limited edition “drops” this year as part of my marketing strategy. Basically you sell a small quantity of your most desirable product to generate hype and make it seem exclusive. It’s been great because they usually sell out in a couple minutes, and I know exactly how much supply I will need in advance, which means I can order custom one-off products from our supplier. However we’ve started having issues with people using bots. The botters will just resell our product on Ebay for more than they bought it for, which feels like they’re stealing profit from us. It also causes a lot of customer complaints which defeats the purpose of our marketing strategy.
I got connected to a startup called KiloKarma through my mentor and we will be using them for our next drop. They don’t have a shopify app yet, but they said they’re working on it and they’ve been very helpful with integrating with my shopify store. Basically they let us use an auction instead of everyone trying to click “add to cart” as fast as possible. The way they explained it is that it’s a win win, because we’ll get a higher price than if the product sold out in <10 minutes, and the customers that actually care about our product won’t have to buy from resellers. Tbh if we can just get rid of those bots I’ll be happy
Does anyone have experience with these kinds of product drops? Any tips would be much appreciated! Here’s their website (https://kilokarma.com/). They offered some sweet deals as they’re trying to gain traction, just ask.
Would be happy to answer questions about using drops in your marketing strategy.
