The POS app on my iPad started having bugs since I updated both my Shopify POS app and iPad OS to the latest version. The keyboard does not show anymore when I click on the search field in the POS app so I basically cannot search for any products or customers. I cannot even do a custom sale as I cannot key in the price without the keyboard.
The problem has been here for two weeks and we are still waiting Shopify to solve it. Is anyone facing the same problem and how did you solve it?
I am using an iPad pro with iPad OS 15.5 with the POS app version as 7.0.3.
I recently updated my POS app to 7.0.4 but still no luck. The only way that I can keep the store running for now, is to use the ipad camera as the scanner. That is the only way I can avoid the keyboard from going away while scanning products.
After a frustrating day dealing with this issue, I tried a fix that has been working for us for over a week. Hopefully this helps for those of you out there dealing with this keyboard appearance issue in Shopify POS.
Workaround Fix:
Navigate to your global iPhone settings: Settings > General > Keyboards
Turn off and disable all unnecessary keyboard assist options. For us this meant that only “Enable Caps Lock” and “Enable Key Flicks” remain green. Turn off all that are listed below…

Predictive
Smart Punctuation
Slide on Floating Keyboard
“.” Shortcut
For some reason tapping search in the Shopify POS app seems to be triggering the predictive keyboard which doesn’t seem compatible with the app and just brings up a broken keyboard. Adjusting these settings has completely resolved the issue for me and my team.
