Hey y’all can I use the POS tap and chip card reader with my computer? or do I need a smart phone/tablet?

I see your question, and I totally get why you’re asking. When it comes to using Shopify’s POS Tap & Chip Card Reader, it does not work directly with a computer. Shopify’s Tap & Chip Card Reader is designed to connect via Bluetooth, and currently, Bluetooth connectivity is only supported on mobile devices like iPhones, iPads, and Android devices.

So, if you’re planning to use Shopify POS with a desktop or laptop, you won’t be able to connect the Tap & Chip Reader directly. Instead, you’d need to process payments using a manual card entry or an external payment terminal that works separately from Shopify POS.

What You Need:- If you want to use the Tap & Chip Reader, you must have a smartphone or tablet with the Shopify POS app installed.

  • If you’re using a computer for POS, you’ll need a third-party card terminal that integrates with Shopify Payments (or another payment processor).
