Reactivating an accidentally deactivated gift card

I processed a gift card for a customer and then accidentally deactivated through processing a refund in error. The customer has since left the shop and isn’t able to be contacted. Therefore, when the recipient of the gift card goes to use it, they won’t be able to!

Is there a way to reactivate a Gift card without issuing a new one?

I’m afraid there isn’t a way to reactivate a disabled gift card so you will need to issue a new gift card. However, since the customer doesn’t have to pay again as the original order isn’t refunded, then you can issue a free gift card and leave a note on file for the disabled card. When the recipient comes in and the old gift card isn’t working, then your staff will be able to look up the gift card and see the note about the new gift card. I understand this solution is far from perfect. However, I hope it can help you resolve this issue.

That being said, since disabling a gift card is an irreversible action, then I can see how this can be a problem if it were a simple mistake and I’d be happy to share this experience as a feedback with our development team. If Shopify moves forward with any changes to the gift cards, then we’ll be sure to announce them on the Shopify Changelog.

Hi. I have the same issue where an online gift voucher has been deactivated in error. It would be great if there was the functionality to reverse this.
