What happens to payment after disabling a wrongly issued gift card?

I received an order for a gift card but then was contacted by the client saying he put the wrong email address so I disabled it and issued a new gift card. What happens to the original payment once I’ve disabled it? Is the money refunded?? Do I need to request new payment for the new voucher I issued to replace the disabled one?

Hi, @Bizim !

Welcome to Shopify Community. My name is Olivia and I work here.

Thank you for sharing your question with our network. To dive right in, you did the correct thing by disabling the original gift card, and issuing a new one. Disabling a gift card does not automatically refund the original payment.

In your case, you have already received payment for the gift card that was later re-issued, unless you manually refunded the order.

Note:

When you refund an order, you send payment back to the customer. You can refund an entire order or only part of an order. You can also refund an order without creating a return, but you can’t create a return after a refund has been issued. In some circumstances, you can cancel an order and issue a refund.

If this is correct, there is no further action required from your end. Let me know if you have any further questions.

Warm regards,
