hello all, was curious to know if there is the ability to show a ‘reserve’ payment option?

So a customer can reserve the item, enter payment details or Apple Pay but I can set the payment collection date?

Hi @DASCPA, Shopify doesn’t have a native deposit or partial payment option, but it’s fairly straightforward to setup via an app.

Most pre-order & deposit apps including ours (I run an Aussie-founded one, Early Bird) will let you choose to capture:

  • Any dollar amount
  • Any percentage of the full amount
  • Even $0 (as a reservation)

Then automatically capture the deferred payment:

  • On a fixed set date in the future
  • After X number of days
  • Upon fufillment

Shopify currently only supports customers paying for their deposits and deferred payments via Shopify Payments and PayPal though.

As for your customer experience, it’ll look something like this:

  1. Customers selects the deposit option on the product page
  2. They’ll see the deposit amount in cart and at checkout, including when the remaining payment will be charged
  3. There’s a checkbox where they need to confirm they understand they’re purchasing a pre-order product and/or need to pay the deferred payment as agreed
  4. Their payment methods are stored securely by Shopify (not the apps) for future collection
  5. They’ll receive an email payment receipt (sent by Shopify) when the deferred payment has been (automatically) captured.

You can always visit the specific order to manually edit the deferred payment terms.
