I recently deleted very very old products that we haven’t stocked in at least 2 years that had been archived in shopify. They were a problem because my 3PL program doesn’t filter out archived products so showed me having hundreds of SKUs and was causing headaches for us all. We have radically changed the categories of products we feature in the store in the last few years so they aren’t even relevant to my audience these days. Since they were archived and very old I just deleted them. Now my SEO ranking has fallen and I have 404 errors from the broken URLs. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue?
Yes! Set up 301 redirects in Shopify to send old URLs to relevant pages, update any broken links, and resubmit your sitemap in Google Search Console. This will fix 404 errors and help your SEO recover.

Yes, as the other user informed us, adding 301 redirects will help.
Hi @LFoodocracy
You can do following 3 steps to help this issue, hope it can be beneficial under your current situation:
-
Make 301 redirection for your deleted URLs immediately.
-
Add no-index tags from store backend for these deleted URLs with the help of developers.
-
Submit sitemap in Google Search Console to let Google know your changes and reindex store contents.
