Separate domain for clients from different countries

Hello, I have a client whose store URL is https://abc.com
They now want to open a new store in their subdomain for example international.abc.com
This will be a completely new and independent store. It will have its own billing and own users. Not connected to this store. The design would be the same, but just for the sake of billing purposes, the client wants to separate the two stores with INR for the Indian store and USD/EUR and more currencies for the international store.
We just want to redirect users who are not from India to that store in the subdomain.
How can we do that from the markets & domains? Can you please help?

Hello, @husainshaikh .

Thank you for posting this question and providing the detailed context!

I understand you have a client that wants to open a new store using their subdomain and process orders in the customers’ local currencies. However, since your client wants a separate billing and database for customers, then you will need to consider creating a separate Shopify account in order to keep the store separate from each other.

That being said, our new Shopify Markets feature does allow your client to add new markets, set up international domains, and set up pricing in local currencies. However, this doesn’t create a separate store and both, the billing and customer database, would be in the same Shopify account. As a result, I’m not sure if this is what your client is looking for. Nevertheless, whether your client ends up creating a new Shopify account or uses Shopify Markets, you can redirect customers using a geolocation app.

I’d love to hear more about your client’s business and why they’d prefer setting up a separate store! Are they selling different products? Or, are they looking to create a different branding between markets?

@Elias Thanks for the reply.

My client is absolutely fine creating a new Shopify store.

Our plan is basically to send customers from India to abc.com and other countries to the new store which could be in a subdomain sub.abc.com or a new domain altogether xyz.com.

Could you share some more info or any video about how to use geolocation to achieve this?

Appreciate the help.

Thank you.

Hey, @husainshaikh .

Thank you for following up!

Since your client wants a separate database for customers, then I think creating a separate store would be the best option. From there, you can create a subdomain using your preexisting custom domain or purchase a new domain and link the two stores using the navigations. While I’m not seeing any video tutorials on using geolocation from Shopify, there are a couple of third-party tutorials on YouTube - EasyLocation- Geolocation for Shopify and Advanced Store Localization for Shopify.

In short, you’re simply downloading an app and setting it up. Feel free to check out our geolocation app or if you’d like to explore more options, then you can also take a look at some third-party options as well - Shopify app store - Geolocation.

If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to let me know!
