UK merchants are requesting the ability to set separate shipping rates for Scotland’s Highlands and Islands, where delivery costs are significantly higher than mainland Scotland. Currently, Shopify’s platform allows zone separation for territories like Isle of Man and Guernsey, but not for specific Scottish regions or UK islands like Isle of Wight.
Key Issues:
Merchants report losing money on orders to these areas (one user cited shipping costs 10x higher than expected)
The only workaround suggested by Shopify support is increasing rates for all of Scotland, which would overcharge customers in major cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh
Example cost disparity: £6.75 to Glasgow vs £23.75 to Highlands for identical parcels
Current Status:
Shopify acknowledged the issue over a year ago and passed feedback to their development team
No timeline or concrete solution has been provided
Merchants express frustration that third-party apps (which charge monthly fees) are the only current solution for what they consider basic e-commerce functionality
Merchant Request:
Ability to exclude specific postcodes or create granular shipping zones for UK regions—functionality they note exists on competing platforms and older bespoke websites.

Hello, is there an update on this, I am loosing money on shipping items to Scotland like many others.
Surely it cannot be that hard to add a new zone / custom zone.
It is the same. for Europe, there is no way to exclude french Dom Toms and Islands of Spain, someone orders to Spain and has it delivered to Ibiza for example costs over 100 Euros! But shopify thinks it is Spain…
Still no reply to this thread isnt great from Shopify, we have this same issue, we have over 39,000 proucts and certain manufcaturers charge extra for Highlands delivery, one this week was £150.00 net for extra delivery so i either have to add that to my base price so everyone gets stung or punish the whole of Scotland by adding it as a custom rule for these products, but the only options is to add the whole of Scotland.
This is basic a feature that should be included in all Shopify plans !!
I cannot ship products to any off shore islands in the UK, for example Isle of Wight etc. There is no way to exclude any of the Islands from Mainland UK. Plus Scottish islands is virtually classed as offshore due to such high delivery charges to get goods delivered their. These are basic shipping requirements!!! Come on Shopify get it together, for a global company this is very poor and incredibly basic shipping settings for an ecommerce store. We need to EXCLUDE postcodes. Give us this native functionality. Apps that do this cost a bloody fortune and they charge monthly too!!
This issue was raised ages ago and it’s still a massive problem for many people. Surely it’s not that hard to set up a separate shipping rate for the outlying islands!!! Why are you ignoring this issue and all these messages?
It should be an easy update. We have it in our old, bespoke website by including a range of postcodes as declared by shippers such as DPD. If a couple of postcodes are problematic then this is still better than having to frontload all Scottish orders just for the few folks who live in remote regions.
Are there any updates on this? I submitted a request over a year ago but haven’t seen any changes. I’ve tried using third-party apps, but they don’t seem to work with our store. This has been a really frustrating issue since we’re losing money every time we ship there. If this could be reviewed as soon as possible, it would be greatly appreciated.
This is really frustrating as I know the capability is there, and is so simple.
I stumbled across the “Shopify Checkout Blocks” app which actually allows you to hide specific shipping rates, which would work for us, as we would just display a highlands only charge.
However, that part of the app is locked behind being on Shopify Plus - bit of a joke really
