Yes, you can definitely sell art on Shopify – and it’s a great platform for it. Many artists use Shopify to sell original pieces, limited edition prints, and even digital downloads. Here’s a brief outline on how you can go about it;

  1. Organize Your Artwork as Products

Upload high-resolution images for each piece

Write clear, engaging descriptions (include size, medium, inspiration, etc.)

Set pricing and, if applicable, enable variants (e.g. sizes or formats like canvas, framed print, digital download)

  1. Decide What Types of Art You’ll Offer

Original artwork (one-of-a-kind, tracked inventory)

Prints (produced in-house or via print-on-demand)

Digital downloads (instant delivery through Shopify or an app)

  1. Set Up Payments & Policies

Ensure payment gateways (Shopify Payments, PayPal, etc.) are active

Add essential store policies: shipping, returns, and terms of service
Below is an example of how an artist presented their work on a store

If you’re exploring things like product setup, print-on-demand integration, or optimizing your store for better conversions, there are plenty of resources and apps in the Shopify ecosystem that can help. Happy to share general tips if needed!

Hello @zyaku

This is Jeffery from SEOAnt to answer this question here for you.

Of course, it is available for you to sell art on Shopify. If you would like to know the process of how to start, you can sign up for a store first and then build up your store based on the style or feelings of art on your own. Then think up a way to let target customers know your store, like advertising, sharing store activities on social media platforms, or inviting testers to experience your products by leaving reviews. In this way, you can have a better conversion rate gradually. Meanwhile, pay more attention to page SEO on the store and make store contents well-structured, so that it will be helpful for some visitors who prefer finding your store on Google, and they can know more details about what you sell and the highlights of products.

When you establish the store URL properly later, you can also share the store URL with me here, and I’m happy to check the content and give you some feedback to optimize it in a better way. Thank you!

Hi @zyaku

I’m LĂ©o and I built the Big Download app a few years ago to help people sell digital products on Shopify.
Over time, tons of musicians and illustrators started using it to sell their art, so here’s a straight-to-the-point 4-step guide to get started:

  1. Choose a clean Shopify theme
Use something simple like Dawn (free) or Horizon (paid but great for visual brands). Your art is the star – keep the site minimal.
DO NOT go on a highly custom theme. It’s ugly and it does not convert. I’ve seen maybe 110,000 shops and the top 100 almost all use Dawn.

  2. Decide how you’ll deliver your art
    You’ve got 3 options:

    • Digital download – Use an app like Big Download to automatically send files securely (if it’s digital art)

    • Print-on-demand (POD) – Use apps like Printful or Gelato to print & ship for you.

    • Send it yourself –just ..send it yourself if that’s something physical :slightly_smiling_face:

  3. Use ChatGPT for mockups & copy
Seriously – ask ChatGPT to generate product descriptions, punchlines, even visual ideas. It can create beautiful mockups in like 2 minutes (like the ones you see below)

  4. Give away something to grow fast
Offer a free wallpaper, sample, or mini-art pack in exchange for an email. Use Shopify Email or Klaviyoto follow up and drive more sales later.

By the way, what kind of art do you sell?

If it’s music or ebooks, I highly recommend giving away short samples for free – it builds trust and boosts conversions like crazy.

If you want some real examples from artists already using Big Download, just drop me a message – happy to share!
