Not really a question, more of an affirmation to open a discussion and inform on the current situation.
I’ve been working with hundreds of merchants by now, and when it comes to subscriptions in France, it’s a deal breaker, Shopify just can’t do it (like properly do it). I’ve now seen multiple french merchants move away from Shopify because of this. Today once more. Why is that? The answer is simple:
• Shopify Payments is not offered in France.
• Authorize.net isn’t supported in France (at least for subscriptions).
• PayPal express requires to create an account when subscribing, and merchants reported to me multiple times that this offers mediocre conversion rates if there is no other payment alternative.
• External checkouts (such as Recharge checkout) are no longer a viable solution, since from my experience they are too outdated for most merchants needs, latest apps have compatibility issues with it, and it does not benefit newer Shopify checkout features.
With that in mind, there is no way right now to have a good and optimized selling experience with Shopify if you are selling in France and need to use subscriptions. Yet, I have tried hard.
I would love to know of some viable alternative, or whether Shopify intends on providing a new payment gateway for subscriptions, available in France.
