Shopify rates in multiple boxes

Hi: We ship orders to end users and also ship wholesale orders to stores. Right now we use Shopify to get the best rates, however if we want to ship a wholesale order it entails shipping in multiple boxes and Shopify won’t allow us to ship one order in multiple boxes. We tried the Hive Plug Ins and other apps but the shipping rates were terrible. Does anyone know how to get Shopify rates but ship the same order in multiple boxes? Would love to know if its possible and if not, why not.

This is a problem my company has been facing with Shopify for 4 years. Many of our SKUs are composed of multiple boxes and we need to generate a shipping label for each box. I haven’t found a satisfactory solution for it yet as it seems this is something that Shopify needs to build a native solution for.

  1. Edit the order to include 1 line item for each box type you will ship, ie “[Box] Pack of 6”

  2. Set the price of it to $0 and set it to a physical product

  3. Adjust the quantity of this custom line item to match the # of boxes you’re shipping of this type.

  4. Don’t send an updated invoice to your client - you’ll confuse them.

Now you can create a shipping label for that new line item.

Downsides (@Shopify, y’all need to fix this):

  1. These line items are technically “sold” to a customer for $0, so they will appear on your sale reports. You’ll have to filter them out if you really care about 100% accurate data.

  2. The quantity or products in the order is now higher. If the order was for 300 pieces, now it might be 310 pieces because you added 10 “boxes” to the order.

  3. Slightly confusing to start with but you’ll get the hang of it.
