Not sure what, if any recourse that I have here prior to speaking to an attorney however I received a notice from Shopify Trust and Safety that my store theme had received a DMCA copyright notice that I was using an unlicensed theme. I purchased this theme AND customization of it from a third party developer and provided this proof to Shopify, however they refused to respond to my email after that. A copy of the invoice was sent to them along with conversations that I had with the developer stating where they got the theme from. If I paid for this already through the developer, shouldn’t they be going after that person that maybe they didn’t remit my payment to the theme developer?
Shopify is telling me that I now have to purchase another license through their store only to be able to re-activate? Does Shopify not permit themes from third party sites and only requires themes to be used from the Shopify branded theme store only?
If this is the case, then I’m done with this platform anyway and will move to a more helpful and responsive platform and urge others to do the same. Would just like some clarity from someone else as when I asked this question via email and provided proof they would no longer reply to my emails and just kept threatening to take down the store unless I purchased a new license right then and there. I’ve already paid out a lot of money and shouldn’t be required to shell out even more.
Please advise if anyone has any further info, or otherwise I’ll update further once I speak to an attorney.
