Shopify Tax - can you amend the invoice details?

Topic summary

Issue Identified:
Shopify’s new tax feature automatically pulls the store owner’s email (often non-customer-facing) onto VAT invoices, with no native option to customize this field to a preferred email like the store notification address.

Suggested Workarounds:

  • Temporarily change the store owner email to a customer-facing address (e.g., accounts@yourstore.com), though this affects other store functions
  • Use third-party invoicing apps (Sufio, Fakturama, Order Printer Pro) for greater customization control
  • For Shopify Plus users: customize invoice templates via API or checkout scripts

Current Status:
The original poster prefers keeping everything within Shopify rather than reverting to third-party apps like Invoice Falcon. They plan to submit a feature request to Shopify and escalate through their Merchant Success Manager.

Resolution:
No native solution exists; discussion remains open pending potential feature development from Shopify.

Hey There

We’ve been using the new Shopify tax feature on recent store builds, and was wondering if there’s any way to edit the details on the VAT invoices?

Currently it pulls in the store owner emails, which aren’t customer facing. We’d rather it was at least the store notification email, or even something we could specify specifically for that store?

Is there any way of changing this?

Sean

Hey @SeanieB1983

You’re definitely not alone in running into this with Shopify’s new tax features.

Regarding VAT Invoices:
Right now, Shopify automatically uses the store owner’s contact details (like the owner’s email) on VAT invoices generated through the Shopify Tax system, and unfortunately, there isn’t a native setting to customize or override this field directly in the Shopify admin.

Workarounds & Options:
Change the store owner email temporarily:
If this is a critical issue, one workaround is to update the store owner email to a more customer-facing address (e.g., accounts@yourstore.com).
Note: This will affect other parts of the store, so it’s not ideal if you’re trying to keep that email private.

Use an invoicing app with more control:
Apps like Sufio, Fakturama, or Order Printer Pro give you more flexibility with invoice customization—like setting a custom “from” email, company info, etc.

Custom invoice templates:
If you’re using Shopify Plus, you can customise invoice templates more freely via the API or checkout scripts.

Feedback to Shopify:
I’d definitely recommend submitting this as feedback to Shopify Support—this is a feature a lot of store owners would benefit from being more flexible.

Thanks for your reply. Considered changing the store email, but not ideal.

We were using invoice falcon, was just nice to have everything in shopify. Will submit a feature request and see if my MSM can suggest as well
