Topic summary

Main issue: Adding a handling fee to each Shopify transaction.

  • Native support: There’s no way to add a handling fee directly to an order/transaction in Shopify.
  • Calculated shipping rates (carrier-calculated): You can include a handling fee by marking up the calculated shipping rates. The screenshots illustrate where the Handling fee setting appears when adding/editing calculated rates.
  • Flat shipping rates (fixed): Add the handling fee into the flat rate itself. To keep customers informed, label the rate with a Custom rate name indicating the fee is included.
  • App-based workaround: Use an app (e.g., CartBot) to auto-add a “Handling fee” product to the cart at checkout.

Outcomes: No built-in, direct handling-fee feature; feasible workarounds are adjusting shipping rates or using an app-added fee product. Status: Guidance provided; no further action/decision recorded, discussion can continue if more questions arise.

How can I add a handling fee to each transaction?

Hey, @lwaziG .

Thanks for posting this question!

There isn’t a way to add a handling fee directly to the transaction or order itself. However, if your store uses calculated shipping rates, then you can add a handling fee by marking up or discounting the calculated rates. Here’s a screenshot of the Handling fee section when adding or editing calculated rates:

If your store uses flat rates, then you’ll need to add the handling fees directly to the shipping rates. So that your customers are aware of the handling fee, you can indicate that the handling fee is included with the shipping by using a Custom rate name.

Hi @lwaziG

While you can’t yet add a handling fee directly, you can include in in the shipping configuration in Shopify. Another workaround would be to use an app such as CartBot to add a product “Handling fee” which would then just get auto-added to the customer’s cart when they purchase a product.

Let me know if this work for you :slightly_smiling_face:
