Showing in-store availability when on-line is out of stock

Hello!

I am trying to find a solution for on-line customers. For background reference, we are an online and in-store business. We are trying to implement a feature on our site that when an on-line item is out of stock in may be available in store. Currently we have 2 locations for our inventory, the manufacturer that makes the items, and B&M inventory that we keep on hand to stock our store. Has anyone found a solution to this? I am unsure if its something that can be resolved by selecting a new theme or using an add on.

@bgooder What happens if the product is only available IN-STORE? Is the customer still allowed to purchase the product?

If the product is only available (out of stock online) in store then the customer can purchase the product in store, but not online. We want to increase the foot traffic for in-store shopping as well.

You may be able to use ranked locations for this. What is your current order routing logic?

@bgooder It’s possible to custom-code this into your theme. BTW have you considered enabling pickup in-store?
