Showing multiple currencies

Hello!

I have configured my store www.graintastic.in for the US and other international markets. Currently it is only available for India (default currency INR). I have the markets , catalogs all set up. I also have enabled international cards payments on razorpay (which is my gateway)

Still, when i want to configure USD as an additional currency in ‘Markets’ screen, i get a message that i need to use shopify payments! Now, Shopify does not have payments enabled for INDIA!

does this mean i cannot show USD and other currencies for my international markets? (using razorpay.)

or is there another alternative? or, the only option is to show different INR prices to international markets and allow payments in USD which will automatically be converted to INR for my india account.?

has anyone here in India configured multiple currencies?

Thanks!

Hi @bharatwasi

Because Shopify Payments is not available in India, you cannot use Shopify’s native multi-currency feature to let customers check out in USD, AED, etc. That feature is locked exclusively to Shopify Payments.

The only alternative, and the standard solution used by most Indian merchants, is to install a “Currency Converter” app from the App Store. These apps will visually display your prices in USD or other currencies while customers browse your store. However, when they reach the checkout page, the price will revert to INR, and they will be charged in INR. Razorpay will then handle the international card payment, and the customer’s bank will do the final conversion on their end.

Hope this helps!

Hi @bharatwasi

You are correct — Shopify allows only true multi-currency display and checkout on Shopify Payments, so with Razorpay you can’t charge or display in USD for real. The workaround is to use INR as the store currency, and have a currency converter app that shows USD (just for browsing). Checkout will still process through Razorpay, in INR. Or, open a separate store for your international customers on a USD gateway, but that means you’ll have to manage your inventory separately.
