I’ve been getting contacted left and right since launching my shop in January and advertising on social media platforms. I get the good ol’ “Facebook is going to deactivate if I don’t click on the appeal link” a lot (research says that’s not how FB notifies you, so I report them and delete them). But I’m also getting bombarded by many people who want to work with me on my shop. I’ve had other shops reach out and say I need to go through their eCommerce experts because they make them so much money per month.
Now, I’m not against having an expert help me, but I also don’t want to be taken advantage of by someone promising they’ll make me money, and then it doesn’t happen (and now I’m out the money I’ve invested). I’ve already invested a lot of money in my shop before considering looking at experts, so I’m a little nervous to invest more (I haven’t made one sale yet…). These guys who are reaching out to me are relentless, though. It’s almost hard to filter who is a true interested customer and who is just looking to catch me on their fishhook (some will ask me genuine questions that sound like they want to know how to order from my store, where I ship, etc. etc.).
I ended up looking into an expert on the Shopify partners website (the most secure method per the Shopify customer service agent who helped me). I’ve had my eye on them for a while after some research and comparing to others, but I wanted to see how my shop performed first. I won’t be able to talk to them for a few more days due to my busy schedule. If I go with someone, it’s probably going to be them. So, here’s where I need help until I can talk to them.
Is this normal? And will it continue even if I had an expert for my shop? Or will this eventually die down after a while? This is a side hustle for me so I can’t answer them on the job, or I risk losing my job (I can’t even take action on the scammers until after my workday has ended to keep everything completely separate). I also want to ensure I show great customer service from the get-go even though it’s just me right now. I have a family (young children who have lots of needs), and I have a life. I don’t mind answering customers, but the number of messages from eCommerce experts I’m getting is exhausting.
Any and all advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much in advance for any help you can provide!
