SSL pending for days- Checkout is currently unavailable - website not secure

Hi there,

I am not sure what the issue is because it seems as if there are a few issues. The site is mostly set up but started having issues when I tried to transfer the domain.

In the browser it says not secure - next to the URL

Checkout says - Checkout is currently unavailable due to technical problems. Please try again in a few minutes.

SSL has been pending for days.

I also show that my email address has not been verified on the original domain site but on shopify it says verify.

PLEASE HELP! It has been a couple weeks trying to figure this all out. I am desperate. Thank you!

http://www.chubbybunnylife.com/ is my URL

Hey, ChubbyBunny_!

This is Moira from the Social Care team at Shopify.

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us here in the Shopify Community. You’ve definitely posted in the right place! I’m more than happy to look into this pending SLL error for you.

Pending SSL

The browser not being secure is associated with the pending SSL, you’ll only be able to visit the domain through HTTP during this time. Pending SSLs should naturally transition to ‘provisioned’ once the domains are added and pointing properly. When you add your custom domain, a new SSL certificate is automatically created, this process can take up to 48 hours.

Normally if you’ve not purchased the domain through Shopify there may be a delay in provisioning SSL certificates to the domain due to different reasons. These usually stem from some DNS settings that you can easily access through your domain host (where you purchased the domain).

To recap a couple of things you must have in your domain setup:

  • The domain points to Shopify

  • The domain does not point to Cloudflare

  • The CAA list is empty

  • DNSSEC not active

  • There are no AAAA records

These DNS configurations are needed if you are pointing a third-party domain to a Shopify store, when you transfer a domain to Shopify, you will be able to manage all of your domain settings directly in your Shopify admin which will save you time and hassle. You do not need to adjust any records during the process of the domain transfer. When you transfer a domain to Shopify, its “A record” and “CNAME record” are automatically set to Shopify’s default domain records.

Domain Transfer

It sounds like you are awaiting a third-party domain transfer to Shopify. Is that correct? It can take up to 20 days for the transfer to be completed as mentioned below:

When did you initiate the transfer? Have you followed the instructions within the guide above or having trouble with any of the steps? feel free to let me know if I can clarify anything for you.

If you have followed the steps above and are still having difficulty, there may be another underlying issue and we’ll need to access your account in order to resolve this. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. TIP: Choosing a business name and purchasing a custom domain is one of the seven steps in this article on building a brand from scratch. I suggest having a read to see what other areas you could work on! Have you designed a company logo? It’s the face of your business and could potentially be everywhere that your brand exists.

If you have any questions please thread those below.

Cheers!

Thank you for the reply. I will recheck these steps and get back to you.

It seems as if the domain has transferred because when I go back to google to search for the domain it says there is not a domain there.

And my entire site works except for the payment page at checkout.

Thank you!

Hey, @ChubbyBunny

Thanks for getting back to us!

I have just taken a look at the store URL you shared www.chubbybunnylife.com and can still see the following error:

The reason for DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN is typically due to a misconfiguration or problem with your DNS. There are a couple of different variations of this error depending upon the browser you’re running. In Google Chrome this error will show as DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN (as seen above), highlighting that this site can’t be reached.

Do you see the domain listed in your Shopify domain settings at all? You can check by heading to Online store > Domains:

If the domain is listed under Shopify-managed domains, this would mean the transfer was successful! You may need to set this domain as your primary domain so your website is accessible. You can do this by clicking “Change primary domain” in the top right-hand corner and selecting your URL chubbybunnylife.com.

To ensure this error is fixed as quickly and efficiently as possible, I highly recommend getting in touch with our live support. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you through live chat, email, or callback. Please visit https://bit.ly/3cJkx8V and log in to your account to create a support request.

In order to save some time, and help the Support Advisor you speak with to pick up from where you and I have left off, I am going to provide you with a summary of the issue as I understand it. You can share this summary at the beginning of your conversation with the agent to bring you both up to speed and help to get your answers as quickly as possible.

Issue Summary: Possible misconfiguration or problem with DNS. Awaiting a third-party domain transfer to Shopify, check progress, and set to the primary domain if available. SSL has been pending for days, manually provision certificate via internal. The payment page at checkout also not working.

I do hope this helps! Let me know how you get on and feel free to let me know if I can clarify anything further.
