Star mC-Print3 stopped printing receipts

Hi - has anybody else suddenly had their mC-Print3 printer stop working? We have one directly wired to our iPad POS and three days ago it stopped printing receipts. I have since swapped for another similar printer, and same issue. UPdated iOS software and printer firmware - no change! Connected the second printer via bluetooth - same issue. The POS does not show ‘print receipt’ as an option when looking at past orders! I have never had an issue in the past, but this one has beaten me!

Any ideas? Have Shopify suddenly stopped supporting this printer? Have they changed any software? This problem started on 26th October 2024!

I am having the same issue with the TSP100III receipt printer that started at the same time. Eagerly waiting for a fix to this!!

Same thing here. Incredibly frustrating ahead of the holiday shopping season!

Same issue. After a Shopify update, our receipt printer stopped working.

Just chatted with support.
Apparently, the latest update (9.20 or 9.21) to the Shopify POS app has caused these printers (Star Micronics TSP143IIIU, also known as TSP100IIIU) to stop working with the app altogether. Although it has been discontinued and no longer part of their supported receipt printers (!!!)
The developers are further investigating the cause and implementing fixes with the connection issues…

We have 3 stores and all 3 are reporting that their reciept printer is not working. Shopify support says that it’s because our IOS is not up to date

(and can’t be because it’s no longer supported)

This was resolved for me easily, following these steps shared by support:

Updating the Shopify POS app:

  • Force close the POS app (swipe away) > Go to App Store > search Shopify POS app > click on the icon logo (blue) > wait for “update” button > once Open is showing, update is done. (Don’t open the app yet)

Bluetooth clear cache:

  • Go to iPad Settings > Bluetooth > turn it off > (close settings)
  • Uninstall the POS app
  • Restart the iPad
  • Reinstall the Shopify POS app (go to the app store)

Turn OFF the Printer and turn it back ON

Resetting the Shopify POS app

Note: You need to close the open session on the POS app Settings > Register. You may open a new one once reset is done. Also, make sure you have the email address and password handy, as it’ll require you to log back in again.

  • Force close the POS app (swipe away) > Open the iPad Settings > search Shopify POS app > click > confirm the following permissions below. Then tap Reset Account > toggle to green > leave it like that.
  • When you open the POS app again > login option should be there
  • Once logged in > try the connection again with the Printer.

I eventually resolved this (having already updated both POS and iOS software) by resetting the printer to factory settings. Instructions are in the star manual which you can download online. The whole episode cost me in time and frustration, and Shopify help were no help! Seems that support for legacy printers is not forthcoming!
