I cannot change my store name/url from
297f06-ce.myshopify.com
to my website url of www.fortified-apparel.com. the domain is linked, the name is on there, but it still shows up like that when people go from my website to the shopify store.

At the moment https://www.fortified-apparel.com is a seperate website than https://297f06-ce.myshopify.com
These 2 are independent websites. Do you want to link the fortified-apparel domain to your Shopify (https://297f06-ce.myshopify.com) in that case you need to change the dns of this website and you will end up loosing your current fortified-apparel website.
If you want to get this change done then please let us know who your domain registrar is and we will share steps for the same with you.

domain was originally purchased from webador. squarespace is my host. its a little bit convuluted.

Your squarespace store will be lost if you are going to use the domain https://www.fortified-apparel.com and link it to your Shopify store.
It is a pretty straightforward change, you need to go to your domain dns and add Aname as 23.227.38.65 and Cname as shops.myshopify.com
After that you need to go to Settings → Domain and then connect your domain from your Shopify store.
