Store transfer process

@Shopify It’s quite frustrating how the store transfer process seems to be getting more complicated over time.

After transferring an India-based store, the billing currency is set to USD by default, whereas it should be INR. Is there any way to change the billing currency to INR without contacting Shopify Support?

I’ve completed store transfers many times before without needing to make any other changes. Why has this process changed now?

@kavish_1 Yes, you can usually switch this yourself if the store is on a standard Shopify plan. As the new owner, go to Settings > Billing > Billing profile > Currency > Manage, select INR and confirm. First check that the billing address is fully completed in India, the payment method is a supported UPI or card option, and any outstanding invoices are paid; Shopify restricts switching to INR while invoices remain unpaid. The change takes effect on the next billing cycle, so an existing USD bill won’t be converted. If this is a Plus store, billing is managed through Organization settings instead.

@kavish_1 After a store transfer, the billing currency can depend on the store’s new billing country/region and Shopify’s current billing setup. I’d check Settings → Billing first, but if INR isn’t available there, Shopify Support may need to change it. The transfer process has changed in some cases, so I’d confirm with Support rather than risk changing the store setup incorrectly.
