Subscription access to downloadable content

Hi,

I want to set up a website with three levels of recurring membership access (1, 3, 6 month options) to pages with digital content for customers to download. I imagine a page which is visible to everyone with download links but if you are not logged in or don’t have an account you are redirected to a sign up page but if you ARE logged in then you get access to that month’s selection of digital downloads.

I’ve tried looking for things like this on Shopify forums but people always talk about digital download Apps and that is NOT what I need. I’m not planning to sell digital products but rather sell access to a page which has digital content on it for download.

Is this even possible on shopify?

Either you use an app that lets you control user access control such the locksmith app ($9/mth) by lightward.

Or the appless routhe by customizing your theme to only show certain content to logged in customers with specific tags.

This is similar to a tag based wholesale customization of which their are some tutorials online if you can find them.

It’s good to know abut the tagging. It would be nice to have an option like the original poster said - that it’s visible to everyone - but only newsletter subscribers could download. I suppose that would be my Tier 1 - newsletter subscribers. A workaround is to have a Freebie page that is a landing page with graphics showing the free content and then subscribers would be given access to the downloadable products. By the way, I do sell digital downloads, so I have an a digital download delivery app and that’s why I would prefer to use it rather than going with a Dropbox downloads for freebies that I usually see.
