Hi all,
Situation: unable to find a niche need subscription app.
Background: I am starting a skin care brand. I have 3 skin care products and then 4 accessory products that customers can buy. Using the native shopify bundle app, I created a bundle of the 3 skin care products and a bigger bundle that also includes the 4 accessories.
Assessment: I want to offer a subscription off where IF the customers subscribes to buy the 3 skincare products bundle on a set interval THEN they get the 4 accessory products as a FREE one time gift for subscribing. Potentially I was considering giving random gifts on a 3-4 month basis.
Recommendations: Using the native shopify subcription app, I am unable to even offer any bundles. Can anyone help guide me.
Thank you!
Hello @AliSkinCo
You’ll need a combination of a more flexible subscription platform plus either a gift-on-subscription feature or a little automation. Here’s what I suggest:
1. Pick a subscription app with gift-on-subscription support
Recharge, Bold Subscriptions, or Skio all let you define promotional gifts on the first subscription order.
Install one, then recreate your 3-product bundle as a single “subscription product.”
2. Configure the free-gift rule
In Recharge or Bold, go to the “Promotions” (or “Perks”) section and set up a rule:
- Trigger: “When customer subscribes to [Your Bundle]”
- Action: “Add free products [Accessory 1, Accessory 2, …] on first order.”
Test by subscribing in a draft storefront to confirm the 4 accessories auto-populate at $0.
3. Handle random gifts on later cycles
- Most apps only support gift on the initial order. For month-3 or month-4 random gifts, you have two options:
- Manual fulfillment: add the gift SKUs in your shipping workflow every few months.
- Shopify Flow (Plus only): create a Flow that, on the nth subscription invoice, adds a gift line item via API.
4. Keep everything in one checkout
- Since you’re using a dedicated subscription product, customers only click “Subscribe” once—no manual bundles needed.
- Your subscription app handles recurring charges and fulfillment reminders automatically.
5. Monitor and refine
- Place a few test orders to ensure the gift logic works.
- Check that customers see the gift clearly in their confirmation email and portal.
- Adjust gift SKUs or timing as you learn what drives engagement.
That setup lets you offer your 3-product subscription bundle with a free accessory pack on signup, and gives you a clear path for occasional bonus gifts down the line.
