The shop I bought from is GONE, along with my money!

back in May I seen something on fb that I wanted to purchase so I followed the link that took me to a Shopify shop called “FabFans” so I paid for my things and received a confirmation email, but then that was it! I’ve checked back over and over again to see if it had been shipped out to me, to no avail. Now this morning I go to check on it again and the whole shop is gone! So NOW WHAT? How do I get my money back? What do I do now!!! This is ridiculous! I feel like Shopify should be held liable for it!

While no doubt frustrating bear in mind Shopify is a platform and blaming them for actions of individual stores is like blaming road builders for 1 car accident.

General steps for seeking a refund for any transaction:

  1. Pursue the actual company you purchased the product from until the response time is unacceptable.
  2. If the merchant is unhelpful contact either your payment handler, explaining the situation.
    1. Or contact the transaction payment processor if known.
  3. If you used a credit card your purchase protection terms may let you issue chargeback long after a transaction was made.

Hi there

Did your issue get resolved?

I just had the same issue. FabFans sounds familiar when I did the payment the Company that was on the payfast wasn’t the name of store but it had gone through already. This is not uncommon though. The store I bought from was Clockwork.sa. when I try to track my order the store is now gone. I got an email confiming the order. They said to allow for 5 to 7 days which is now over. When I whatsapp or message the site on instagram I get nothing.

That is a terrible example, its not just the issue with one shop .. i faced similar issue with a different shop and its gone now… The only entity allowing such scams is shopify itself … And if shopify is acting as a medium between me and the vendor they must have a failsafe mechanism to prevent scams… A very simple failsafe is having delayed payments. When i put in my order shopify takes the money which will only be debited ro the vendor when delivery is completed which can be implemented by OTP during delivery .

As a platform if you do not have any authority and authentication of eho can sell .. just quit as you are not a trusted source anymore .. you are just a scam.

You have to carry some accountability.

If I wanted to run a business where I don’t get paid for my product when they purchase the item I’d start an eBay store it’s not Shopify’s fault that there are bad people out there. that’s like blaming ford for a car wreck when the driver of the ford was intoxicated so bad he couldn’t see straight

You have to carry some responsibility for not doing your own research on the store before making an impulsive purchase rather than an informed one it’s not Shopify’s fault your to lazy to make sure it’s a trusted source, eBay has things in place to keep people from getting scammed and yet they still get scammed it’s 100% up to you to do your research before making any purchases

You need to contact your banking service and have it cancelled that way or else nothing will get done it’s your responsibility to take action

Poor Example and EXCUSE. ebay or Amazon Helps the Customer in cases like this WITHOUT the Piss Poor EXCUSES. Shopify is No better than the Stores that STEAL someones money then HIDES behind that CRAPPY Excuse. I’ll stick with a Company that TRYS to protect the Customer thank you. I for one will NEVER use Shopify Again.
