Thinking of giving up the business - Please Help - luxeandenvybycharo.com

Hi everyone

I have been open since the end of June.

I am hardly making any sales, in fact I make more sales from Facebook Marketplace than I do from my actual store.

I cannot afford to buy any more stock even at this point and falling deeper into debt.

I have tried facebook and instagram shopping, does not work, and dont even start me on Meta, pintrest, tiktok, ebay, carousell, tried poshmark, I advertise for free on facebook marketplace, I advertise on instagram and facebook, pintrest posts, tiktok posts.

I can’t pay anyone to market for me, I have tried google ads, fb ads etc etc, all the ads, done the SEO and so on and so on. Researched and done everything I can think of.

Seriously considering selling all the stock off at low cost and going back to the workforce to have an income. I am doing this all on my own. So if anyone out there has any last suggestions, please tell me, otherwise I am done. HELP!

One idea would be to start finding out what your ideal customer is. Who exactly are you marketing towards? The smaller the market the better. Then you can target them, find out their thoughts on your products, test the website design on them, what do they love, what don’t they love, use their feedback and gain an understanding of what they like or don’t love. Perhaps start with where you are located.

From a very quick look of your website it’s hard to understand where your products are from, who made them, did you make them, is it your own label?

You also need photos of people in your products, find someone you know and take some photos of people wearing your items. Makes a big difference.

Hi Wishingwell,

Thank you so much for your message, I really appreciate it. I have done that, all the feedback I get is they love the products, the website, the design, 5 star reviews and so on. Makes me then think people just don’t have the capacity to buy at the moment?

Any strategies on how to target the market? I ask questions in posts and ads, email subscribers, although I am not a marketing guru and not getting much back.

I have an About page that has information about my label and the brand.

Yes, I want to do that, will have to be me unfortunately as I don’t have anyone I can photograph in the items. Thanks again, appreciate the support.

Hello @LuxeCharo ,

Gina here from flareAI - your Fully Automated Free Sales Machine. Hope you are doing good! I am happy to share some suggestions on your store.

Please consider liking and accepting the solution if it helps.

I truly hope it will be useful for you.

  1. Add sections like ‘Featured Collection’, ‘Hot Sellers’ to help keep customers updated on new products and give exposure to new collections.
  2. Display store’s contact info like phone number, email address, and office address in the Contact Us page.
  3. Testimonials are a good way to increase the trust and will influence the purchasing decision. Also, provide the customers’ full name, and profile photo of them to add authenticity and credibility.
  4. A FAQ would be useful to provide quick information to help customers make a purchasing decision and also to reduce the time your employees need to answer simple questions.
  5. Discounts and limited-time offers will help to increase sales.
  6. Add Buy Now button which will simplify the purchasing process for consumers, improving their customer experience.
  7. Add filters in collection pages to help your visitors narrow in on the specific product they’re looking for and find products they might be interested in based on certain features (e.g. size, color, category)
  8. Showing your average rating gives your shoppers quick information to make purchase decisions. Average ratings provide you with feedback on popular and unpopular products that you can use to make changes.
  9. Add sticky header
Adding sticky header allow users to quickly access the navigation, search, and utility-navigation elements without scrolling up to the top of the page. They increase the discoverability of the elements in the header and the chance that users will take advantage of them.
  10. Add Blogging in the store
Blogging is an amazing way to drive traffic to your website and increase your SEO. The more your blog, the more content the search engines have to crawl and index. This means they can easily recognize that your site is a resource of information for people to access.

Consumers trust organic sales channels like Google and rely on it even more and are using at a rate that exceeds the growth of display and organic social. flareAI will help to scale your site sustainably at NO Agency fees, NO Pay-per-click, NO paid marketplaces. flareAI actively grows your store presence on Google Search. Thanks Gina for your suggestions, appreciated. Good to know I am doing 99% of those already. Blogging I am not doing, but will consider it.

Hey @LuxeCharo , I’m loving the feedback that was given in this thread already, and I would love to offer some more help. I’m curious to know what type of product you’re selling or the niche. Also, you stated you hold stock for your business I’m curious if you have looked into any other options that don’t require you to hold stock. Depending on your products and where you’re sourcing them from, this might be a great option to save money.

If you feel comfortable sharing the niche you’re in I could find some other options to help you save money and focus on marketing again. I know you stated you’ve put a lot into marketing already, and I think there are some ways you wouldn’t need to spend a lot of money to get fresh eyes on your products and store.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hello Kitana,

The website is listed at the top luxeandenvybycharo.com

Dropshipping or pre order is not as a business model that suits my brand.

I have utilised Google ads, FB ads, Instagram ads, Pinterest, Tiktok, I post on FB and Instagram, Tiktok and Pinterest, my products are also listed for sale on other platforms such as Ebay, Carousell, Gumtree, Marketplace. I have previously sold through Facebook shop and Instagram.

Look forward to any new marketing ideas you may have.

Sorry I missed you sharing your website! I took a look at the website and your socials, and since you said that any form of dropshipping doesn’t fit your business model, we’ll skip on that and only focus on your website and socials.

Your website is good. I love the Halloween banner that is currently live, and it really fits in with the overall aesthetic of the dark theme you are using. Your products are beautiful and the photos are well done. It looks professional and trustworthy. Here are some simple changes that can help your website performance (these are all just suggestions of course):

  • Your logo and your header backgrounds don’t match.

The logo background is black and the header background has more grey in it. This isn’t a big deal but if you can make a transparent logo I would use that one instead to make it flow seamlessly.

  • Remove the “collections” block on your homepage and instead add your collections to your navigation bar in a drop down menu under “Shop Now”. Follow this Shopify help doc for the full instructions. This will make it easier and faster for your customers to find exactly what they are looking for.

  • Remove the “Search” button from your navigation. Your top navigation should be the most important pages in your website, and there is already a search bar in the top left corner.

  • Add customer reviews. People love hearing others experiences with a business, it also adds trust for your customers when they see that other people shop and enjoy the items they buy. You can find a ton of review apps in the Shopify app store. Loox is a great product review app that is paid with a 14 day free trial, and Stamped Product Reviews & UGC is another great one that has a free plan. Your website template might also have a built in review section you can add to your store. You don’t need reviews for every product to start off, but it’s helpful when there are a few.

  • Add a discount code pop up and collect emails. Offering a discount code to all customers for signing up to your email subscription is a great way to build an email list to use for direct marketing, and it offers your customers a small reward. Check the Shopify app store for apps that can do this.

  • Add more photos of photos to your website. This can either be of people or products. You can do this by conducting your own photo shoot (maybe use family and friends to save money), or you can find stock free images on websites like Burst, and Pixels.

Like i said, your website is good, but it’s missing a little personality, a sense of who is wearing the clothes, who wants to shop here, what do they look like, what is their lifestyle, how much money do they make, where do they normally shop. I always think about these questions when reviewing a website, and within the first 30 seconds of browsing a website, I should be able to see who the customer is. The goal with your website is to get sales and to do that you have to know exactly who your customer is. When you know who your customer is you can reflect that in your website and people browsing can see themselves in your products, and even feel more connected to your brand. Knowing who your customer also helps when marketing, so if you haven’t already made a “customer profile” for your business, I highly suggest doing that. Here is a quick article that explains how to identify your customer.

When you have time I suggest browsing websites from brands you like and shop at, and if you don’t do much online shopping take a look at the Shein website. Of course Shein is a billion dollar company so don’t compare your brand to theirs, just use it for inspiration.

I hope that helps when looking at your website, now shifting to your brand socials.
Something I always tell people is it takes a good balance of money and time to build a brand, but if you don’t have one or the other you might have to put more money in or more time. Social media marketing is a fantastic way to grow your business and your social media accounts. I’ll quickly go over two ways you can use your social media platforms to bring in customers, one is organic and one is paid marketing, but both can be affordable.

To bring in more customers organically you want to make engaging content. One thing I noticed is that a lot of your content is pushing your products instead of engaging with people. Selling products is the goal, but you have to use engaging content to grab peoples attention and make them feel connected to your brand. You can find people to model your clothing, film yourself packing an order and how you personalize the experience for your customers, use viral sounds with your content, ask engaging questions, film in bright rooms or areas, show or talk about being a small business owner. One example would be putting two looks together and asking in the video “which outfit is better for date night? comment below”. Anything that will make people engage.

You don’t have to stop posting videos that share promotions or discount codes, but you don’t want that to be your only content. You also can post other forms of content, it doesn’t have to be clothing focused. Inspirational quotes, memes (maybe shopping related ones), aesthetically pleasing photos, look book photos (even if they aren’t your clothes) etc. I know you already incorporate some of these into your feed and that’s great, but try to take it to the next level by thinking, how can I get someone to comment on this post. Check out this awesome video that shows you how to utilize Instagram reels for your clothing brand. I also found a few accounts you could use for some inspiration:

The other way to use social media to bring in new customers is influencer marketing. This means finding influencers who you would pay (either with money or with products) to wear your clothes and make videos for you that they would post and tag your brand in. Their followers would then follow you and buy products. The key to this is finding influencers that are in your budget and also fit into your brands style. I found this great guide on influencer marketing you can check out. Side note, the violet jacket in your store would be a GREAT item to showcase in videos or with influencers because it’s very in style, unique, and it’s one of those pieces that everyone stops to look at even if only a few have the confidence to rock it.

I know this was a lot of information so please take your time and see if there is anything that catches your attention. If you’re more of a visual learner like me, you can search any of these suggestions or topics on YouTube and you will find millions of creators that share advice for free.

Hello, I have had a look at your store and here are a few suggestions on your store could be improved.

  1. Make sure there are sections for best sellers and latest arrivals on the homepage. These are two categories that customers usually look out for in a store when they are on it.

  2. There should be customer reviews on the homepage. This would help increase the level of trust and interest that customers have in your store.

  3. You should put an add to cart button on each product page. This would help make it easier for customers to purchase products that they like. You can download the app here https://apps.shopify.com/add-to-cart

I wish you and your business the best of luck!

Hi Kitana,

Thank you for all the information, you are amazing!!! Can you be my person.

I tried to update the logo and I am not good at altering the website, instead I changed the colour, better?

Thank you, search removed from navigation, menus updated with collections. When you remove the collections block, what do I replace it with on the home page? Any suggestions?

Customer reviews, I have Rivo customer reviews on the product pages. Did you mean add it to the home page?

Rivo does not provide that option. Is there another way to add it to the home page?

I have created a slideshow of reviews instead, problem is, when I add it, there is a white gap at the bottom that I have no idea how to fix and also, for mobile view it is too big. So I have not kept it visible for now HELP.

Yes I will have to do my own photos, you mean of the products yes or of something else?

How do you show on the website who the customer is? My customer is 30-60 age group, mostly 40s.

I love the Tom Ford website.

Unfortunately, I literally do not have any money at all to pay any models or anyone, I cannot afford to buy more stock. I am currently applying for jobs.

Sadly, when I have asked questions on social media, no one responds. It is dis-heartening. I have posted quotes and post reels; I really am running out of inspiration. I cannot afford to pay an influencer and would not even know who to ask. I have done a lot of research on it I have messaged a few and they do not respond.

Yes, I just sold a violet jacket on facebook marketplace, we are in spring heading towards summer in Australia.

Hello, Thanks for reaching out.

I have a new in section on the home page. Best sellers I may consider, although not really selling so a tad challenging.

Customer reviews on the homepage I am trying to work out how to do as Rivo doesn’t do it, there are reviews on the product pages and google reviews on google. I have created a slideshow but need help to make it look good and fit on both mobile and desktop.

There is an add to cart button on each product page already.

Hi again! Sorry for my late reply, I wanted to be sure I had the time to answer all your questions here! Hope you’re doing well, and I’m happy that the information I sent was helpful to you.

I took a look at your website updates and already I’m loving what I’m seeing. Your new banner looks beautiful also. The logo looks great with the background matching now. Fantastic job with your main menu and the drop down list!

When you remove the Collections block, you can replace it with blog posts or your Instagram feed. There is no wrong answer here, whatever you can think of but I do think one of those 2 options would work well.

If you were to write a few blog posts they don’t need to be elaborate, you can talk about trends going into summer or winter since you’re heading into summer now and others (like me :sad_but_relieved_face: ) are heading into winter. If you enjoy writing this would be a great feature to add to your website, it also helps with your ranking in Google when you add new original content to your website.

If you wanted to add the Instagram feed you could use an app like Instafeed / Instagram Feed that is great and has a free plan available. You can also search in the Shopify App Store for other apps to compare.

You mentioned the reviews slideshow you added has a gap at the bottom, I wouldn’t be able to help you without seeing it or your admin, but you can reach out to our support team directly and they will be able to authenticate you and then take a look at your theme to see why this might be happening and how to fix it. I also wanted to mention that if you’re using a Shopify made theme you are eligible for up to 1 hour of free coding to your theme. It’s best to wait until you have made all your theme changes, and then go through and take notes of anything else you would want to change but you’re not sure how to. Then contact support and let them know you would like to use your hour.

When it comes to your own photos, I was referring to people wearing the clothes but it’s not something that you have to have right now, and maybe once you start to bring in more customers you can take a look at doing a photo shoot then. An important thing to remember about your website is it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to look good and function correctly. You can always add and change things as you go.

With showing the website who your customer is, I mean when someone enters your website you want them to feel that the aesthetic, vibe, feeling, photos, people, anything the see or feel reflects them and who they are. When your customer sees people that look like them, are around their age, have similar styles, they feel more connected to the website, and more connected to the business. If you were selling swim suits, you would want to show people wearing them, having fun, surfing, on the beach, people are more drawn to the life they are already living or the life they want to live. You can do this with any website, and it doesn’t have to be photos of people, but maybe photos of places. Something you can try is posting more aesthetically pleasing photos to your Instagram, and then they can show up if you decide to install the Instagram feed app.

A good website I use to get photos for my socials is Pinterest, and a little hack to find “trendy” photos and videos is type in a word or phrase and then add “aesthetic” to the end. It will show you photos that match the word or phrase but won’t be directly on the nose. For example:

Without “aesthetic” added to the end

With “aesthetic” added to the end

Reaching out to influencers it can be a bit tricky sometimes. My suggestions to help with this are to look for small influencers (5k - 10k) who you think would be a good fit for your business. When you find someone check their post comments to see that people are actually engaging with them. When you’re ready to reach out to them look for their email address in their bio. Most influencers will have a professional email and it’s always best to contact them there. You don’t want to DM people unless they have no contact information because DMs tend to get lost in their inboxes, and sometimes they won’t see them at all. There is no guarantee you will get a response but keep trying! Here is a great article you can follow with direct steps on how to do this.

You can also check out a new feature within Shopify called Shopify Collabs which is free to use. Watch the video in the link to get more information on how it works!

I think it might also be helpful to you if you join a few communities for small business owners. Even if you don’t write a post you can find so much information from other people who might be running into the same things you are, and you’ll find people who share their inspiring stories or solutions they found. Here are a couple I’m in and I’ve learned from:

If you’ve never used Reddit before don’t be afraid! You only need to make an account if you want to reply or ask a question, and there are A LOT of great communities there with a lot of free information. People are pretty honest with the struggles they have and are genuinely looking for help. It might take some time getting used to the app or browser but it’s worth it.

I know it can be a little discouraging when you’re doing everything on your own, and now going back into the workforce. Don’t look at it as failing but instead giving yourself time to figure things out. I’m currently working full time and running my own small business and it does take a lot of work, but the more I grow the closer I can get to my goals, and I have a steady income so I never feel pressured to make changes. I can take my time to test things out and try new things without taking a financial hit. I would love to work on my business full time but I also want to make sure it’s stable enough to do that before making any big decisions. I watched this video the other day and it was very inspiring for me as I’m learning more about TikTok and how to make sales there. Check it out.

I think I got to all your questions, hopefully this information is helpful and of course, if you have any other questions that come to mind don’t hesitate to reach out.

Rooting for you!

Thank you so very much! You are fabulous! Appreciate the time you have taken. I am on the job hunt and will update the website as I go and take on all of the things you have suggested. I should have done it the other way around but never mind, when in a toxic work environment you have to get out.

Thank you everyone for the input and especially to you Kitana. There are not enough fabulous humans out there like you. Cheers Charo
