TikTok Ads show conversions but shopify doesnt

Topic summary

Multiple users are experiencing a discrepancy where TikTok Ads Manager reports conversions (e.g., 142 conversions) but Shopify shows zero actual sales. The original poster runs both Website Conversion and Website Traffic campaigns, with TikTok support claiming the conversions are real and attributing the mismatch to real-time syncing differences.

Root Cause Identified:
One user (leonardonock) provided a solution with screenshots: the issue stems from selecting the wrong conversion event when setting up TikTok ads. Many advertisers are choosing “Add to Cart” or “Initiate Checkout” as their conversion goal instead of “Complete Payment” (or “Purchase”). TikTok counts these actions as conversions even though no actual sale occurred.

Current Status:
Several users confirm experiencing the same problem. One user notes that “Complete Payment” isn’t available as an option in their setup—only “Purchase”—suggesting potential confusion around TikTok’s conversion event terminology. The discussion remains open with users seeking clarification on whether they’ve actually made sales and how to properly configure conversion tracking.

Hey,

im running TikTok Ads for my Website. I got a Website Conversion Campaign and a Website Traffic campaign active.

In TikTok it says 142 conversions on the conversion campaign but Shopify shows 0 sales. i also contacted TikTok and they also tell me to trust in the ad manager and those are real sales especially because its a conversion campaign. They told me its because they sync everything in realtime and shopify doesn’t but i don’t think so tbh.

The campaign leads to a hoodie im advertising so should also go for sales. Also the click rate of the links for the website are totally different between tiktok and shopify (also got ig ads going but they are all good).

Anyone had this issue before?

I have the same issue - like did i make a sale or no?

Hi everyone, I had this ‘issue’ that isn’t actually an issue. When creating the ad, you are probably selecting add to cart as your ‘conversion’ and not ‘complete payment’. Complete payment conversion then means a sale has been made however ‘add to cart’ as a conversion or ‘initiate checkout’ means TikTok will say there has been a conversion as that’s what you selected but no sale because there was no purchase made. Please see photos attached :slightly_smiling_face:

I have the same issue.

There’s no complete payment option only purchase which I selected as well
