Transferring Shopify account to an email that is already in use

Hi there,

I need to transfer a Shopify account to another email but I recently set up an account using the email I need to transfer to and now it comes up with “Email is already in use”.

Would I be able to close down the account that uses the email I need and reconnect my other account to this email?

Currently, if you already have a shop using this email address, then when you try to update this for your new shop, you will encounter this error.

As a workaround, you can transfer ownership to the email you’re experiencing an issue with as per the screenshot below:

This can be completed by logging into your admin, select settings > users and permissions > transfer ownership. If the above workaround is not successful, then you will need to get in touch with our live support here at this page so that we can get this resolved for you. While we’re not able to provide account-specific support via the Shopify Community at this time, we’d be happy to continue assisting you there!
