Translation on checkout page issue

Topic summary

A Shopify store is experiencing translation issues on the checkout page where delivery-related text displays incorrectly across English and German languages. Initially, the German translation showed “Abholung im Geschäft” (Pick-up in shop) instead of the correct delivery term, confusing customers.

Key complications:

  • The store uses Translate & Adapt app with multiple third-party apps (Bird for delivery dates, VideoGreet for video messages)
  • Support teams from Shopify, app developers, and theme developers each blamed different sources without resolution
  • The problematic text doesn’t appear in obvious translation settings within Translate & Adapt

Recent development:

  • Someone (identity unknown—possibly one of several app developers investigating) made overnight changes
  • Now the German translation appears correctly in German but incorrectly shows on the English checkout page
  • Translations appear correct in both Translate & Adapt and theme settings, making the source unclear

Suggested troubleshooting steps:

  • Check Settings → Checkout → Customize for default text
  • Review Settings → Checkout → Edit Checkout Content
  • Navigate to page 30 of Translate & Adapt → Checkout and system → Default Theme Content (104 pages total)
  • Verify the “Delivery Title” field across all languages and markets to ensure English text wasn’t accidentally replaced with German

Hi Community

I am hoping someone might be able to solve an issue we have that is small but actually has a big impact on our site! Our store’s default language is English and we have a second language of German. We use the Translate & Adapt app. We also have another couple of apps, Bird which allows customers to pick a delivery date and VideoGreet which allows customers to send a video message with their gift.

Somehow, the German translation of ‘Delivery’ on our Checkout page is pulling in as ‘Abholung im Geschäft’ which means ‘Pick-up in shop’ which is very confusing for our customers. We have no idea where this pulling from. We have gone through all the translations in Translate & Adapt and this text is nowhere. We have spoken to Shopify and they have blamed our VideoGreet App. Videogreet App say they do not change Checkout pages. Shopify then blamed our Theme. We spoke to our Theme Developers and they said it was Shopify.

Noone seems to be able to solve something which seems so minor but yet has such a big impact on our store.

Please help! Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi,

I am sure you would have tried a lot of things but without checking your backend its difficult to identify the problems. I see if your Store Language is English, then English → German translation is fine (Am wen möchtest Du die KULA Box senden?), if your store language is German then translation coming is wrong (Abholung im Geschäft).

Couple of places to check:

  1. If you go to settings → Checkout → Customize. Please note the default text. If your store language is German, perhaps this default text needs to change

  2. In Settings → Checkout → Edit Checkout Content (below in that same page) - See if there is a text there which may be causing an issue

In “translate-and-adapt” app → Checkout and system → Default Theme Content

I found the option 30th page. There are 104 pages. so maybe search them all :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi Gaurav. Thanks for the help. Actually the problem is a bit different now. Someone overnight (we are not sure who as a couple of our app developers were looking at it) has now got the right German text there - but this actually appears on the english site. And the problem is - the translation is right for english and german both in translate & adapt (see below pics) and in the theme settings so we still have no idea where this is coming from or how to correct it (and because noone informed us - we don’t know who made the change)…

That is weird.. English language should not have translated to German on checkout page. The only reason I can think of is that somebody has changed the English text in Translate and Adapt app. So if you visit Page 30 of Checkout for English Language in Translate and Adapt app, somebody has changed the english title itself

Another thing to do would be once you reach page 30, check the top header which would be something like this and check for all languages in all markets if Delivery Title is correctly entered.
