A new store owner received unsolicited emails claiming their shop appears on a list of underperforming stores, just 2.5 weeks after launch. Community members confirmed these are scam emails—Shopify doesn’t provide such lists—and warned about bulk spam from fake “experts” offering services.

I keep receiving emails from people claiming to have found my site in a list of underperforming stores, I know Shopify wouldn’t provide such a list , I only launched 2.5 weeks ago and whilst sales aren’t flying in, I’d imagined that organic growth would be slow and steady? Is there anything obviously wrong with my store, is there something obviously wrong that’s triggering all these emails to me?
Welcome to the community. You did not share a link to your store
But first, word of warning, you will get tons of emails, and 98% will be scam emails. They are either claiming to be from Shopify, that you need some license, some rules or anything else that sounds legit. Just check the sender’s email. If it is @gmail delete and block. You can even make a filter that if the sender has “shopify” in name but it is still “@gmail” just skip and delete. Next, there will be tons of emails from “experts” that find all kinds of issues with your store, performance, Accessability score, SEO, and marketing. Most of those emails are sent in bulk, and those who hook on it profit. Be really careful who do give access to the store. Do not fall for “gurus” that do not even have a website but on Instagram they claim they can get you 40K a week.
I am also for slow and steady, but that also depends on what you sell. Please take some time to search here for " No Sales" topics. You will find that many store owners make a basic store, then pay some ads and expect miracles. But in reality, their stores need a lot of work. There is a lot of good advice that repeats, and there is definitely a lot that you can apply to your store.
You’re absolutely right Shopify doesn’t provide any list of underperforming stores. But there are platform where stores are public about new stores. Launching a store 2 weeks ago and seeing slow growth is totally normal and BTW why are you not getting sales yet? Are you still developing?
Thanks, I’m not sure why I’m not getting sales….ive tried really hard with the website for it to look professional and flow well, I blog to help seo and use socials ….ive obviously got something wrong just don’t know what.
i understand you and it’s always like that for the first time so dont feel bothered or depressed. you just have to make sure your products are hot selling and you’re targeting the right audience. I hope you understand?
also would you like to share your store link?
Actually, that is a very clean and good-looking store you got. Nice job, and it’s seen that a lot of work has been put into it.
Prices look reasonable, a lot of payment options are also good. Really good theme.
Still, there are a few things that could be improved or changed:
The announcement bar text should have a link and lead somewhere. To separate the page or just to shop all page
I would make the menu always sticky on scroll, not just up
On the homepage, after Best Sellers and Scented candles, there is an empty collection box
On the footer, even t is very clean now, I would add maybe 2 more link lists, for legal pages and collection, it is important to have internal links
On the collection page, I would add more to the collection description. More text, more keywords to get picked up
Blog pages should be formatted a bit better, some lists ordered and unordered look off
Our story page have too small text, just 10px is not readable for most of people
On the product page, a few things:
I have checked a few products and Color variants are not clear to me, some products do have different color images but some do not and that is a bit hard for customers. I would want to get some idea how it looks like. And if the color option is clicked, most people expect that the image changes to that variant.
Feel like 2-3 more sections could be added to product page, maybe some icon list for customer reassurance, some image/text, maybe FAQ, and some reviews app is a must
You could also benefit for some small discounts, everyone love to see discounts from time to time
A good strategy would also be to have some bundles, with products that goes together or for some a volume discounts, you do want to sell more
I did find most of the contact info, but just on checkout, that’s why I suggested some links in the footer, you want to have access to those before checkout
Some videos could be good overall, on the homepage or of the product page. And it would be good to use them on social networks too
Thank you for taking the time to have a look through my site, it’s my first one so appreciate your input. I don’t know how to do all you have suggested but I will definitely be doing as much as I can . Thanks again
@Jolou i check your store and there’s nothing much to say regarding it as the other person has did all the audit. but if you’re really trying to work on the sales, i’d suggest you do more of promotions to groups related to your niche. or another way is that you try to pitch people who you think needs your service most. For example, marketplace on facebook, facebook groups for marketing and more like that. And also you can get to create some engaging content for your product on FB or tiktok.
I hope you understand what i explain briefly here?
Kindly like this as solutions if it helps and am open for discussion here. Thank you
