Update to Dawn version 6.0.2 if I made coding changes

Hi everyone!

I have Dawn theme 5.0.0 and I saw that there is a new release 6.0.2

I’ve made a lot of code changes of course - because I would like to have my website in my own way.

In this case, it’s not possible to update it to 6.0.2 because of code changes.

But is there a way to do this? I think everyone here made custom code changes to your Theme code and I hope you already found a way to update Shopify Themes.

It’s really strange that if you made some code changes then it’s not possible to use new releases…

Hi there,

Once you have made changes to the files of old theme, the new codes will not get migrated to the new theme after updating, as new files will replace the old files.

What you can do is - if you know which files you have made the changes on, you can backup the old theme files, upgrade the theme and migrate the codes individually.

Please do not replace the whole file as they might break the functionality.

Just migrate the codes that you’ve written or made changes to.

Hope this helped.

Thanks

The problem is when you’ve made any code changes - the new releases will not be shown.

I saw new release by accident - because I have Dawn template without changes in unpublished Templates.
I think this is unfair that if you just make small changes - new release is not available anymore. But people just would like to have unique design - not all same Dawn clones.
