I used to edit the “Product Metafields” within the bulk editor but now I am switching over to “Variants Metafields” and the column option for Variant Metafields don’t show to choose and edit.
Has anyone solved this issue? Is there a way to edit the variant metafields in bulk?
I also have an issue with showing the Varient Metafields as filters on my storefront. The Product Metafields show but not the Variant Metafields.
You can edit your variant meta fields by going into the individual product page itself and performing the edits in there. From that page, the variant specific metafields you have setup in your metafields settings will be there:
Hi Dirk, it would make absolute sense though to be able to do this in the bulk editor though. I need to change these fields for 50 products at the same time.

Has anything further been done regarding the ability to BULK EDIT variant metafields yet?
Shopify seems to find all other kinds of irrelevant things to change and update ALL the time, but yet
the developers do not seem take into consideration the more IMPORTANT issues like this to work on.
This is a VERY time consuming and tedious task to manually open EACH product to edit and add “variant” metafields especially when you are sitting with more than 5000 different products in your store!
Some attention to this and making this functional to BULK EDIT variant metafields would be appreciated!
After all we are your PAYING customers, and maybe they should pay more attention to WHAT we need and not what they THINK we need!

4 Months later!!! AND STILL not even a sign that SHOPIFY developers deem this URGENT and NECESSARY!!!
We have been MANUALLY editing our products for the past 4 months and are STILL doing so!
No use you going to all the trouble of continually sharing the “thread” with the developers, and they just turn a blind eye to it!
They are quite happy and “ON TIME” every month to take our money! For what? so that they can just do what they deem necessary and “Important” but do not give a minute of thought to what their PAYING CUSTOMERS want and need!
This is pathetic to say the least! How long still till SOMEONE actually lifts their lazy butt and DOES something about this?
Can this not be escalated to the CORRECT and RELEVANT parties or MANAGEMENT for that matter?
I am “pissed off” as this MANUAL EDITING is consuming my time 24 hours, 7 days a week and I have NO time to work on ANYTHING else but this TEDIOUS editing EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY DAY!!! of the more than 6000 products on our site, we are not even halfway yet!
Totally hear you on this and it is frustratingly, a common experience of working with Shopify. There are countless oversights and illogical decisions made in the platform that you just simply do not get with alternatives on the market. An ongoing daily battle and all you get is third party paid apps shoved down your throat to resolve problems that shouldn’t even be happening.
I’m extremely frustrated this hasn’t been fixed. I have literally thousands of products that we can’t update in bulk at all now because of this Variant Metafield issue. The bulk editor won’t allow us to update anything because it’s giving us an error message saying our Variants don’t match, yet there’s no way to fix that in that bulk editor. Most of our products have inventory tracking turned off, so we can’t temporarily turn it on to fix the Variant Metafields in the Inventory bulk editor. Shopify, you should credit my bill this month at $15 per hour for the 30 hours it’s going to take one of my employees to update this one by one. This is a major design flaw.
Yes!!! once again!!! just try shoving another APP down our throats, we are PAYING SHOPIFY ENOUGH EVERY MONTH in order to SORT THIS OUT!!!
There is NOTHING “LIMITED” about my current SETUP or ALWAYS the “COMMON” response of “Try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache” THAT IS NOT THE PROBLEM!!
There is also NOTHING wrong with “THEME” settings or “FILTERING”
Bottom line is… “VARIANT METAFIELDS” have to be completed “MANUALLY” there is NO option to edit them as you would be able to do for “PRODUCT METAFIELDS” in a “BULK EDIT”
Clearly you have no clue what we are referring to, and try to just sweep it under the rug by offering “COMMON” solutions that is going to make NO difference!!!
NOW 5 MONTH LATER!!! and STILL NO ANSWER OR RESPONSE FROM YOUR DEVELOPERS!!!
As per snip included here, ALL the information marked with RED ARROWS need to be “MANUALLY” completed “ONE-BY-ONE” - “PRODUCT-BY-PRODUCT” and we have and STILL are editing our products MANUALLY now going on for 5 MONTHS, daily!!!
