Happy Wednesday, I am new to this but I have setup my site and we are not getting any viewers nor buyers. I was contacted today via inbox email by someone name daviddennis@…. that indicated several problems that he found regarding my site and suggested fixing the problems for a fee. I wondered have anyone heard of this person/name or is this a scam just trying to get my money and/or into my Shopify.
It isn’t a scam actually, there are experts that help fix some issues on stores. I haven’t heard of that guy before but you can try him out, yet I can refer you to someone who has assisted me previously and he’s quite good at what he does, if you don’t mind…

And yes that is most likely a scam. There is maybe small percentage of honest developers that really want to help and deliver servise for acceptable fee. But in most cases it is a scam, and even if those developers have some knowledge, enough to sound technically good. Their purpose is to lure you into paying, and results are questionable, but they often ask more and more money and results are in best case non harmful. Also they might “fix” the issues that are not there but they present them as urgent, ground breaking issues. As you see here, there are people that use AI for responses but the primary objective is not to help but to get in contact by email.
And usually it is a gmail, and those accounts have two first names like your David Dennis. They may have Instagram or fiver as portfolio but to me that is not enough. If you can not invest in a domain once and have a portfolio how can you expect someone to give you money. Scammers on other hand would need to change domains often.
If you have issues with sales, you are not the only one. There are a lot of topics here, just search for “no sales” and you can see a lot of good advice. If you do need some assistance check https://www.shopify.com/partners/directory there are a lot of agencies and developers that can help.

This may be an ads provider or marketing person who intends to contact you and sell their product or service, I guess. It is better to keep cautious and do not share sensitive information on the store easily.
You can further check if there is a related app existing on Shopify APP Store from the email description received in your inbox to verify if it is true or false.
