What exactly are the advantages of using Shopify?

I still haven’t signed up. One thing that is causing hesitation is I really haven’t seen a great looking Shopify shop yet. To be honest, they mostly all look the same: same layout, overwhelmingly large photos, high prices. The shops don’t look original. Is it because people are choosing from a limited selection of free themes?

Can somebody sum up the advantage of using Shopify over just creating a Stripe payment account and creating your own sales site? Are there other built-in “shop” advantages? I’m really curious. I’m trying to decide between going Amazon reseller or creating my own shop with Shopify, or just building from scratch.

Thanks.

Hi @douglerner

Going with shopify will save your time and you can start your sale within 15 days with shopify themes.
Further, Shopify checkout is secured, covering most of the payment gateway integrated default, very easy to manage product, customer, order, category, shipping, taxes and most important part is their quick support.
Coming to the part of theme of storefront development, Yes, shopify gives free theme which are having bigger image but within the customization it gives lots of section and settings so that you can build your site as per your product branding.
For demo you can check this store which is using DAWN theme but looks good –

website : hintofhappiness.com

password : seiyud

Moreover, shopify gives default analytics reports of sale, purchase, profit etc. can say alot. Site will have good speed and very easy to connect FB, Instagram, Google and Youtube channel to maximize sale.

Thank you for your reply. I think the site you are showing looks nice. One of the things that helps is that it appears to be well organized, and prices are easy to find. Another nice thing is that we are not overwhelmed by huge images taking up the entire browser window. Perhaps when I am seeing that it is a site using images as “backgrounds.” The site owner may think that looks “impressive” but actually it is just distracting. At least to me.

The items your store are selling are different from what I am thinking of. One problem is that I still have not decided exactly what to sell or where to source it from. So I am still thinking. I also signed up as an Amazon reseller, but I like the idea of controlling my own store. Also, with Amazon FBM there is nothing stopping me from doing both.

Thank you for the information.

Thank you for the very detailed reply and information. I suppose while I have the technical skills to create my own website, I probably don’t have the artistic skills to make it look nice.

I also signed up as an Amazon reseller, but I still haven’t decided what to sell or where to source it from.

I supposed if I create a Shopify store it’s possible to do that and also have Amazon FBM sales at the same time. But I do like the idea of being in control of my own shop and growing a presence, over time. With Amazon you do lose control. Of course marketing is a question. I don’t want to spent a fortune on advertising. Decisions, decisions. :slightly_smiling_face:

My business objectives are actually quite small.

I need to think about sourcing and products some more. I might very well get back in touch. Thank you very much.

Hello Douglerner,

Maybe i can add some benefits of Shopify here;

Shopify is more than just a payment processor; it’s an entire e-commerce platform with built-in inventory management, customer analytics and marketing tools. With Shopify you get:

1. All in one: inventory, order tracking and marketing tools.

2. App integrations: thousands of apps to add to your store.

3. Security & Compliance: built in PCI compliance and security.

4. Shipping & Tax: automated shipping rates and tax calculations.

Stripe is great for payments but you have to build or integrate everything else. Amazon reselling gives you a huge audience and fulfillment help but with fees and limited brand control. Shopify gives you ease and control.
