Has anyone on Shopify gotten their 1099K yet? anyone know why not?
Hi, @homeroastcoffee !
Thanks for your question. January 31st is the general deadline, but we (Shopify Payments) have a legal extension that allows us to exceed that date. Qualifying merchants can expect their forms by February 11th and the account owner will receive an email when it is ready to download.
Please let me know if you have any other questions!
Hey itās 13 Feb 2023 & I still havenāt received mine. Youāre not alone. I just want to file my taxes & get the most stressful part of the year over with.
Hi, @bigbleu20 !
Thank you for your comment. Qualifying merchants have been sent their 1099-K forms, so if you have not received one, it is possible your store didnāt meet the threshold requirements. A merchant qualifies for a form if their transactions using Shopify Payments meets or passes the threshold (the federal threshold is $20K processing volume AND 200 transactions, but some states have lower thresholds, as shown below). These thresholds are set by the IRS and state tax authorities, not by Shopify. Here are the required threshold amounts:
| ā | 2022 THRESHOLD |
|---|---|
| Federal | >= $20,000 USD AND 200 transactions within the calendar year. |
| California | Follows the federal threshold, with one exception. California has a threshold of $600, but that only applies to āapp-based driversā (e.g. Uber). Shopify merchants are not likely to qualify for this category. |
| District of Columbia (DC) | >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |
| Illinois | >= $1,000 USD in gross payments AND 4 transactions within the calendar year. |
| Maryland | >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |
| Massachusetts | >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |
| New Jersey | >= $1000 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |
| Vermont | >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |
| Virginia | >= $600 USD in gross payments within the calendar year, no transaction threshold. |

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
I STILL have not received a 1099-k in physical form, nor any email, and there is nothing that I can find in my Shopify dashboard. Iām very concerned as it is very close to the tax deadline!!! What is going on???
Hi, @SarahA !
Thanks for your comment. Did you confirm that you met the 1099-K requirements I listed above? If you believe your store does meet those requirements but you donāt have a 1099-K form in your Shopify admin, I recommend contacting our live support team through the Help Center so we can look into this for you.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Hi there, I just followed the instructions to find my 1099-k but only 2021 is showing up in my account. How can I get my 1099-k form ?
Hi, @EllRoseEclectic !
Thank you for your comment. If you are eligible for a 1099-K form for the 2022 tax year, the form is available in your admin under Finances ā Payouts (you will have also received an email in early February with the subject line Download your 1099-K form). If you donāt see a form there, itās possible you did not qualify for one. I shared the IRS requirements in a comment above. If you believe you did qualify for a 1099-K form but you did not receive one, you can get in touch with our live support team through the Help Center and we can double check this for you.
Please let me know if thereās anything else I can help you with!
I have gone through these steps and the only 1099-k available for download is my 2021 form. Additionally, I did receive an email with a link to download the 1099-k form, unfortunately it took me to my 2021 form, not 2022. When will the 2022 be available. I guess Iāll be filing an extension since tomorrow is tax day ![]()
Hi, i was told by customer service that if your shop made under 20k that
you are not eligible for a 1099-K this year. Not sure why they changed it
but you donāt need it to file your taxes for 2022.
Hi, @lindsey_pham !
Thanks for your comment. If you do not see a 1099-K form in your admin, it is likely your store did not qualify for one in 2022. You can find the IRSās thresholds in my comment in this thread from 02-14-2023.
Within your admin, several reports are available to help you file and remit your taxes or to provide to your tax accountant. You can check out this help document for more information!
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
In an era of computerization/technology and even AI, I donāt understand why any company needs an extension for reporting 1099ās! Iāve a scheduled meeting with my accountant for Feb 5th to review and get our tax returns going and Shopify is going to delay this process. I donāt get it. Iām paying $300+ a month for this? Whoops, probably be hit w/ yet another line item charge for ⦠doing their job?
Hi, @Bob36 .
Thank you for your feedback, I certainly understand your frustration. We anticipate delivering the 2023 1099-K forms to merchants by the end of February 2024. If you have any other questions please let me know and Iād be happy to look into it for you.
I donāt need a mailed hard copy vs access to one which is online.
The end of Feb is unacceptable and Iām tempted to contact both the IRS and
my congressman. This is just wrong.
Peter
WHY? Did you NOT anticipate delivering the 2023 1099K by January 31 like
every other business. This is the second year for this issue, one time
could be a mistake, twice is just incompetence, or you just donāt care.
Greta⦠wrong answer. My law (USA), here in America all 1099 info is to have been available and/or in the mail by January 31st. In this era of technology all companies should easily be able to generate reports for the previous fiscal year by the close of business on January 2nd. I have reports and timelines that are dependant on this information. I also need to be able to print out a report which details gross sales + expenses such as fees (visa/mc) and credits. Iāve tried to email Shopify⦠that bounced back to ācheck out our FAQ sectionā as if that isnāt a research paper itself. And thereās no phone number. Youāre it? I see no alternatives but to contact my Congressman and Senator⦠perhaps even the IRS. This is very disturbing.
Thanks for your feedback. Businesses are allowed to file for extensions on the delivery date, so while the original due date is January 31st, Shopify has been granted an extension to provide these forms to merchants by the end of February. By default, any merchant eligible for a 1099k form will also be granted this extension.
It is not your responsibility to file this form, Shopify does this on your behalf, you only need a copy of the form for record purposes. This it outlined on the IRS website: https://www.irs.gov/businesses/understanding-your-form-1099-k
You do not need this form on hand to file your taxes. You can compile the data you need using the available reports in your store. More information on that can be found here.
Trevor,
Clearly you neither own nor manage a business⦠at least the financial
side which might necessarily interface w/ investors, banks and other areas
besides the IRS.
Of course I know I can retrieve a 1099 online and print a hard copy but at
this point, Shopify canāt even make that possible⦠until the end of
February!
And yes, my accountant is clearly able to figure it all out⦠but A. why
should he have to go through that exercise and B. He charges by the hour so
your arrogance [and/or that of Shopify] goes beyond the pale.
The very simple solution is to, just as I and millions of others have
programmed our cell phones to go to sleep at night and not wake us til the
next morning, program your systems to generate all of the necessary data by
January 6th⦠even though by law, you have until the 31st of January to do
so. Why delay, thereās zero manpower involved.
Just ābecause you canā is a terribly inadequate response. I left Paypal
for this very reason⦠Shopify [in their arrogance] looks to be next. I
will not pay for either ignorance or arrogance.
Greta⦠this attitude of āwe donāt have to because by lawā and or āby our own internal policiesā¦ā really, really stinks! What if we didnāt trip your wires because weāve recently transferred our business in from another platform (where we were over $200k prior to the transfer). Absolute arrogance! Iāve directed my IT dept to review returning to the former platform and/or investigate other alternatives⦠we left Paypal when they took a similar stance which, oh by the by, theyāve revisited and now get 1099ās out promptly⦠or at least theyāre accesible online. Too late for us though, their arrogance lost our account. I will make this clear and my review of Shopify. Iāve already reported to my Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger and Senator Chris Hollins. I think the IRS will be next. Iāve 4 departments waiting on my end year reports/1099.
