Hi there, I’ve got a Shopify store and want to integrate it with Paddle (merchant of record). I tried with a ‘certified’ one, who proved to be a scam, despite finding him on the Shopify partners website. No one on Upwork knows how to perform this integration either. What can I do? I’m lost. Even certified ones are unable to do it. Do you know anyone?
Topic summary
-
A UK-based store owner is seeking a developer to integrate Shopify with Paddle (merchant of record), after a “certified” partner turned out to be a scam and Upwork lacked expertise. They need a workable path to use Paddle with Shopify.
-
A suggestion to use Shopify Managed Markets was made, but it’s US-only and not applicable to the UK store. Because Paddle has no native Shopify app, any connection would require a custom workaround that bypasses Shopify’s optimized checkout.
-
Key risks highlighted: potentially paying double transaction fees (Paddle’s MoR rates plus Shopify’s external gateway charges). Additionally, bypassing Shopify’s checkout may require written consent from Shopify to avoid deplatforming.
-
No developer referrals or concrete integration method were provided. The discussion remains open, with the prevailing advice to reconsider this setup and unresolved questions on viable MoR alternatives for UK-based Shopify merchants.
Have you looked at Managed Markets in Shopif? US only though.

Unfortunately, my store is based in the UK and therefore, I cannot use Managed Markets.
I would venture to guess that anyone with deep experience in Paddle integration would advise against this setup. This is because Paddle lacks a native Shopify plugin, requiring a fragile custom workaround that completely bypasses Shopify’s optimized checkout flow. This is not to mention the prohibitive costs arising from double transaction fees (Paddle’s MoR rates plus Shopify’s external gateway charges).
Thank you for the feedback!
And that bypass needs written consent from shopify to avoid deplatforming issues.
