Why are my sales dropping drastically in 2023 despite similar advertising?

Hi everyone - I’ve been running my shop on Shopify for over 2 years and have been very pleased with my traction and sales. I’ve recently noticed that this year in particular has been a huge drop in sales, nearly 40% down from last year.

I acknowledge that this could be economy related in the recession we’re in, but I also see that my orders in general are way down regardless of the same advertising techniques I’ve used in the past. My store as-is has minimal usability and SEO issues, so I’m wondering if there’s something blocking my sales channels from getting the same visibility as they once did.

For example, my Instagram and Facebook orders have fallen tremendously short of last year and I’m not sure why, since both sales channels are still active.

Are you or anyone you know also dealing with a significant drop in sales this year? Could it be from GA4 or other?

Hello @orangechannel

I think that is absolutely normal. If you use the same marketing technique to the same target audience, after a while it will become saturated.

You can reach out to purchased clients to offer coupons to increase the chance of retention.

Hello @orangechannel ,

I am Gina from flareAI app helping Shopify merchants get $7Million+ in sales from Google Search, on autopilot. I am here to support you.

I’ve taken a look at your store and found there are quite a few things which if added can increase sales.

  1. Display store’s contact info like phone number, email address, and office address in the Contact Us page.
  2. Add social media for the store to increase the traffic. By showcasing your social media profiles in the footer, you can raise awareness of your brand and increase your online presence, making it easier for customers to engage with you and share your content.
  3. Add About Us page which is a reflection of the purpose and personality of the business.
  4. Add average ratings for each product
Including both user rating and number of ratings on the products will help users to make decision whether to buy your product or not.
  5. Add sticky header
Adding sticky header allow users to quickly access the navigation, search, and utility-navigation elements without scrolling up to the top of the page. They increase the discoverability of the elements in the header and the chance that users will take advantage of them.
  6. Add Blogging in the store
Blogging is an amazing way to drive traffic to your website and increase your SEO. The more your blog, the more content the search engines have to crawl and index. This means they can easily recognize that your site is a resource of information for people to access.
  7. Crafting an ideal SEO product title and URL can aid search engines in comprehending the nature of your merchandise and boost traffic to your website. Therefore, it’s advisable to maintain a unique and specific product title and URL.

8.Make your product pages more informative by adding detailed product descriptions that outline the features and benefits of your products. Providing this valuable information can help increase customer engagement and encourage sales.

  1. Add CTA button like Shop Now, Buy Now in the Home page header banner
The Call To Action(CTA) is a key element on a webpage, acting as a signpost that lets the user know what to do next. Without a clear CTA, the user may not know the next steps to take to purchase a product or sign up for a newsletter and is likely to leave the site without accomplishing their task.

Let me know if you have any questions.

What would you suggest I do differently on Instagram and Facebook ads?

You can keep doing Instagram/Facebook ads, but try a different target audience set.

And try adding a different product category is also a good idea.
