I have recently gone through my site and given all my collection pages a custom search engine listing name and description but when i check google it is displaying my page title and description instead.
I have edited other pages ie. About Us, Contact us and there has been no issue.
It’s important to note that after updating SEO titles and descriptions in your Shopify admin, it can take some time for these changes to be reflected in Google’s search results. Google needs to re-crawl your website to index the new content, which can sometimes take a few weeks depending on their crawling schedule. To try to expedite this process, feel free to perform the methods shared in this blog post.
I have already indexed the pages previously so will it still take a few weeks for it to update? When i go to the page URL in Google search console can I inspect URL and have it individually crawled to test if it works?
Yes, even if your pages have been indexed previously, it can still take some time for updates to be reflected in Google’s search results after making changes. Google periodically re-crawls websites to update their index, but the frequency and timing can vary.
You can indeed have the pages individually crawled in Google Search Console to expedite the process, but it’s important to note that it still might take some time for changes to be visible in search results. Google processes these requests based on their crawling capacity and priorities, so immediate changes are not guaranteed. Nonetheless, feel free to give that a go and check the search results from time to time.
I’ve been looking into Google console and it says my pages were indexed on the 20th August and we had the changes complete before then so should they be showing by now?
While your pages were indexed on the 20th of August and the changes were completed before then, it’s important to understand that Google’s indexing process can sometimes take additional time to reflect updates in search results. The date of indexing indicates when the pages were last crawled, but it doesn’t always align perfectly with content updates made around the same time.
Again, immediate changes aren’t guaranteed. The process depends on various factors, including Google’s re-crawling schedules, which unfortunately we do not control. Since you’ve confirmed that the changes were made before the last indexing date, you have the option to request a fresh crawl. This can sometimes help expedite the update in search results.
I understand but in our recent updates we changed both the SEO title tag and SEO description AS WELL AS the Page title and description. Google is showing the new page titles we input but not the SEO titles. Could this be something in the theme code where its pulling from the page title instead of looking at the SEO titles ?
Basically in my collection pages we have a section to put the H1 heading and description and a section for Search Engine Listing heading and description. We want the Search engine listing title and description to be displayed on google not the H1 heading and description.
